Goku is fine but Kirito? Hell no.
No shock to see Minato up there. Even in death he never stopped protecting his son. Can't get much better than that

You what?! Goku is one of the worst anime fathers in history, he's just terrible. At least Kirito could be a good father in the future, I mean honestly...still I wouldn't pick him either. What a strange list. I would've expected more slice-of-life selections, here, but instead we've got a lot of brawlers. I wish Kazehaya from Kimi ni Todoke had wound up on this list, for example.

With all that popularity, you'd think Nagisa's pops from Clannad would be there as well but I guess not. I cannot think of worse choice than Kirito as dad. He'd be going out collecting his harem all the time.

This proves most fans are idiots.
Goku is a TERRIBLE father. This culminates at the end of the Cell saga where he almost got his son, and everyone else for that matter, killed because he had no freaking clue ABOUT his son. He had no idea what Gohan was like, what his likes and dislikes and what his nature is. Yeah... father of the year. And then he gets himself killed and opts NOT to come back and be with his family. Goten grew up without a father for the first 5-6 years of his life. Hell, VEGENTA was a better father to his own son. |

Great poll! If we're looking at shonen characters in the future, I think Ed Elric would make a great dad. Just look at his relationship with his brother.
As for actual shonen dads, Isshin beats up Ichigo to "toughen him up," Goku is neglectful (Piccolo is not that bad as a father figure, I guess), Vegeta...gets better, kinda, Minato is dead, and *most* shonen dads are outright abusive (Gendo Ikari!) or neglectful (Hoenheim!) if they are lucky enough to be alive. What about Shikamaru's dad, Shikaku? He's pretty awesome--encouraging, supportive, understanding, and willing to play shogi with his son even when he knows he'll lose! Moms next! Kushina Uzumaki, all the way! Or if we have to pick a living mom...well, I'm not sure I'd vote for her, but I'd hope Bulma would rank well. Maybe Pinako Rockbell? |
