Do we know the timeline for the story? I loved the original series which finished with their victory at Ikedaya.

I'd love to see these films. Definitely fell for the story in the original TV anime and since I was never able to get my hands on all of the manga, if this picks up somewhere after that timeline I will be thrilled.

I really hope these movies are better than the series and have a darker tone. The Bakumatsu era has always fascinated me (thanks in major part to Rurouni Kenshin), but I was super disappointed in how cheesy/campy the majority of PMK was till the last 6-ish episodes (which were bloody freakin' awesome). Or maybe it was the score, I remember that sounding pretty meh as well. Glad to to see the cast is reprising their roles, though. I always love me some Jouji Nakata.
