Has it even been a year since the announcement? And at 60mil they clearly have no expectations for this. Which is fine since none of the fans have any either.

Would much rather it was the Monster Hunter series that has Owen Zastava Pitt as the MC.

agreed.
you would think they would look ta other game/anime series made into live action movies and see they are more often than not badly reviewed/liked.
sure, some are by design able to work as live action (like RE series), but MH not so much.
especially putting modern world guns and stuff when the games are focused in a world thats technologically ehind us <_<

More like the investors didn't have high expectations, while the studio is hoping for a Hail Mary of a low-budget film becoming a Mega blockbuster. But in reality it will likely break even in the US and probably reach $120 Mil Overseas.
Aside from the acting, what's really going to make-or-break them is how good those monsters turn out.
