Any major event could have had this happen, and IMHO others probably have. But an event in New York city attracts more attention, especially if there are eye catching pics of cosplayers. So this will attract more media attention. Rolling Eyes Probably just bad luck for Anime NYC and the fandom in general. So, sorry folks, but we are not done wearing masks, etc., just yet. Sad

Scheduled a test for tomorrow just to be safe before getting my booster next week, although I've had no noticeable symptoms. I'm not super concerned about my own health considering I've been vaccinated and everything, but it will be good to know for others/in case I need to inform anyone else I'm interacting with on a daily basis.

And presumably whoever this was had to take the subway, infecting others, and well, you can probably put the pieces together.

Odds are he didn’t even know.

Sigh, I haven't shown any symptoms but I'm going to get tested anyway

I guess this was inevitable but I was (probably delusionally) hoping everything would turn out alright

Edit: my rapid test came back negative, which is somewhat of a relief for now.

I had to get tested before returning to Canada, but that was on Sunday afternoon, so too soon for symptoms. I'm going to go get tested again later today. No symptoms yet.

It's sad that Covid-19 may never end due to various of variants.

I was at our booth in the hall for a good chunk of the convention, got tested on Wednesday the 24th with a full PCR test and was negative.

(None of the people from our company had any major symptoms after the event)

I'm hopeful that maybe this person actually got it on the flight back or something and not at the convention... It's just hope, though.

why would it ever end, we cant eradicate an entire family of viruses, if we could the common cold wouldnt be a thing

even then, the only virus to be totally ended (eradicated) smallpox, took over 30years to do as such.

we are just going to have to live with it and play the very long game waiting for even people in diverse remote locations in the world to get vaccinated

If we could invent vaccines that blunted transmissibility enough, and got enough of the population vaccinated, to cross the herd immunity threshold, then I think it would be reasonable to expect the situation to "end"; this is basically what herd immunity means, really -- that the tendency for single infections to become large outbreaks would no longer be present. I believe we'd also get a secondary benefit, too, in that this would mean many fewer copies of the virus replicating, hence much lower rate of new mutants emerging.

That looks like something of a pipedream right now, though. Effectiveness of vaccines against transmission, if everyone got vaccinated, may have been enough to achieve herd immunity with the original COVID variant, but that has looked less and less likely as new, more contagious variants emerge. It seems like we may be settling for "Hope enough people get vaccinated, and that vaccines remain effective against serious symptomatic illness, to avoid hospitals being overwhelmed", with maybe an outside prayer that a very highly contagious but much more symptomatically mild variant could come along one day and displace Omicron, Delta, and such.

ANN has reached out to Anime NYC's event company Leftfield Media for comment.

Why? What do you think they will say that's different from what's already been stated and what people should obviously do upon learning of this news? They're just as surprised as everyone else.
