Science nerd here, you may have noticed that the Great Circle wasn't 4/7 the length of the Rhumb Line. The secret is there is a major strong ocean current and winds (Ferrell Cell Circulation) that traverse that path caused by the Coriolis force. The Winds especially move from east to west toward the equator and slows ship motion when moving west to east...Really, Ryusui should have known that and surprised Senku didn't mention either...

It wouldn't matter if it took 70 days if they're going to California's central valley where they stuck the pin, since it doesn't snow there. And since they're after dent corn and not sweet corn (the latter of which they'd be more likely to find in CA), it would still be mostly fine on the stalk even a month or two later. Deer, raccoons, squirrels and other animals might beat them to it, but that will be true no matter when they get there. If they're planning on harvesting from Kansas or somewhere on the Plains where it does snow, they're not going to make it over two mountain ranges in time anyway. Also, without irrigation, I'm not sure how much wild corn they're going to find in either place.
But the episode was still fun. Aren't these people mostly still physically teens? I was surprised they let them drink alcohol without some disclaimer about underage drinking (and how they're technically no longer underage), since anime seems to be pretty rigid about that.

Episode 3
The story has really kicked in and I'm jazzed. Dr. X, eh? COOL!!! By the way, those croc-burgers looked absolutely delish.

Well, it's fun for me to see Sacramento mentioned in an anime, though I think the Delta wouldn't look like that even 3700 years without people from now. The only real banks the river has where they seem to be now would've been man-made levees, which without maintenance would've been long gone. And the constant shifting of river channels and islands from annual flooding is why there aren't a lot of big trees, certainly not redwoods (they're on the coast in that area of CA). Also it would not have crocodiles, I don't care where they escaped from. Water's too cold most of the year. But goddamn, still can't get rid of the guns.
I forgot it was previewed that they'd encounter people, so those people farming corn is less far-fetched than I was thinking. And though CA is hardly in the Corn Belt, Sacramento is one of the top three counties in CA for corn (Sutter to the north and Imperial on the Mexican border are the others), so I guess they picked right.

I was laughing so much at the 'Merican Crocks in the Sacramento River and having them swarm the boats no less! Like Gina said, too cold, they don't do that and how'd they get from Florida (their only native US habitat)? Alligators maybe would be believable...Dr. Stone's info is usually legit (didn't know corn grew near Sacramento) but this time he gets a C-

Holy Crap! Forget about the crocs being in the wrong place. How about those twin .50 caliber machine guns and that combat knife? What are 20th century weapons doing in the 57th century? The last time I saw those guns was on some film from the 1960's on a river patrol boat in Vietnam. To paraphrase Senku, "someone as some wicked bad ass skills" if they can create a gun under those conditions. Now I'm really curious about what our heroes are getting themselves into.

I'm wondering if it's just a translation error since the Japanese word, "wani" is used for both alligators and crocodiles and there is a species of alligator native to China, so calling them American Alligators would not be incorrect. Granted, that still doesn't fix the issues since alligators would face the same problems in California that crocodiles would.

Actually, according to Wikipedia, crocks can die of hypothermia which if why they are found only in Florida and south. Alligators can survive freezing temperatures because their metabolism can slow to near zero. In places like the Carolinas they have been found to survive by positioning themselves near river and lake banks where they can put their "snouts" just above water to breathe and allow their heads to get frozen in place. As long as the rest of them doesn't get frozen, they're good...

We had some discussion on the survivability of structures and items during S1 but I'd wager that in some desert areas of the Southwest US concrete structures could remain after so long (witness pyramids in Egypt) and thus the items inside. Military installations tend to house weapons in concrete bunkers, so that would be my guess...

Concord Naval Weapons Station (as the supply base during Viet Nam) has the concrete ammo bunkers, but since it was decommissioned awhile back, I don't think there's anything in them. If Concord's city council ever makes up its mind about reclaiming it, they might not even be there. Also, I don't think the kind of concrete in use these days has a 3700 year lifespan, unlike the Coliseum or aqueducts. Edit: I forgot this was supposed to begin in 2019, so whatever they eventually decide to do with it, it's moot as far as this story is concerned. Still I think nature would've leveled them anyway.
As for the latest ep, I don't know where they are now, but unless the San Andreas fault had a major upheaval of Fantasia proportions, they're not in the Delta anymore. Yes, there is the Coast Range (that's where the redwoods are, but that's south of where they made landfall), but there's no scenery like what we're shown within walking distance. Maybe Mt. Diablo (its visitor center at the peak kinda reminds me of their fortress), but the landscape is wrong, and with the narrow channels they've been boating down, they should be much farther upriver.

Episode 4
I gotta say that both Stanley Snyder and Dr. Xeno look pretty cool and bad-ass, especially Stanley with his purple lipstick. His name is not very apt, though. Stanley Snyder makes him sound like he's a chartered accountant, instead of a lethal dog of war. Anyway, I'm curious as to why Stan and Dr. X are fluent Japanese speakers.

Why the answer is obvious, they are hard-core otaku...! Since Gen starts in English I think we are to believe he knows the language and the Japanese dialog is for convenience afterward.

I'd figured that Dr. X was doing his research at JPL in CA, rather than TX or AL for story/logistical reasons, or possibly Vandenburg. But the crude map of their journey to Sacramento in ep 8 shows them starting somewhere in or near the Salinas Valley, where there's no NASA or even military presence that I'm aware of. And given its current nickname of "Salad Bowl of the World" for all its diverse, year-round agriculture, it seems more likely they could find some corn there rather than traveling all the way to Sacto, on foot.
On the other foot, the map wasn't exactly accurate, and they appeared to be reviving in mountainous terrain, so I guess NASA has a secret outpost in the Gabilan or Santa Lucia mountains.
Non-Newtonian fluids ftw! Though some blood was still spilled, ouch, probably from flying shrapnel that missed the center target.

And that was a nice binge of 8 episodes in one go. When it comes to Dr Stone you have the craft/build arcs and the actiony ones. The former has incremental progress and is thus a great weekly view (it is why the Ishigami arcs are my favorites) while the latter is exciting enough to want to see it all in one go.
I really liked the season in that fighting while being at a disadvantage technology wise forced the gang to be creative. Due to Senku being out of the running for a while characters such as Chrome also got a chance to shine. The contrast between Senku and Xeno as scientists was interesting too. One wants to share science with the whole world while the other wants to rule as the sole owner of it.

Episode 12 (Finale)
I've been enjoying this. Fun new characters like Super Soldier Stanley and his fetching purple lipstick, self-described "Cool-headed" Luna and of course Dr. X himself, Dr. Xeno. Earlier today I was making a list of currently airing shows I've been watching this winter by genre and I can't decide if Dr. Stone should be listed as Science Fiction or Science Fact???
Glad we don't have to wait long for a resumption (July). I thought it was odd that Stanley is going to be chasing Senku and some of his pals to South America because "he can't be stopped." Um, couldn't Dr. X just give him an order to cease and desist. Now we've got three different groups: the one still back in Japan who are being completely ignored, the group who will remain in North America and the group headed for South America. Weird.
