Really not fond of the misleading/false advertisement for this show. I had been looking forward to a CGDCT bowling show and instead it's going to be a violent and edgy show.

Colossal letdown

Haha what even is this show?

I’m not sure what’s funnier the sudden setting change or the fact that their still trying to tie in the bowling aspect.

The setting change isn't sudden, the first episode builds up to it by slowly revealing a fossilized bowling ball that had been uncovered by demolition workers

Yeah I would have much rather had a cute girls having fun bowling anime than whatever this is supposed to be.

What's everyones problem with girls playing bowling in Sengoku period?

While bowling was introduced to Japan only around 19th century, the game itself is pretty ancient (there are archeological evidence of Ancient Egyptians alredy playing an early version of it).

I say let them cook, at least for now. This could be an amazing show, or it could be a dumpster fire, probably not much in between, lol.

It really just comes down to how the show was advertised right up until the first episode debuted in Japan. There was literally no hint whatsoever about the time slip aspect when the show was announced & first detailed, instead acting like it was simply about girls playing bowling, and nothing supernatural whatsoever. It's a deliberate bait & switch done to help give the show extra attention, and for some it feels like they were lied to.

For example, something similar was done with the return of Deadpool Samurai by initially advertising it as a completely unrelated romcom manga, before the main character was killed off by Deadpool (by accident) at the end of the first chapter. However, in that case people were generally OK with the bait & switch because it's Deadpool, so there's an inherent absurdity to it all that helps make the B&S feel fine.

In comparison, Turkey! is seemingly 100% serious about everything in its execution, so making people think that they're getting a series about girls playing bowling & instead turning it into a time slip story where girls from modern times are now going to be playing bowling during the Sengoku period can feel like a step too far.

Reading the comments, this is why surprise parties aren't so much a thing anymore.

The twist certainly came out of left field. But that to me is pitch-perfect execution. Because if you see the twist coming, you've done a bad job by telegraphing it too much. And one of the biggest annoyances for a series (and Hollywood has been doing this too much with movie trailers) is when the promotion of the show gives away the entirety of the plot and all the parts you might look forward to. By the time you watch the thing you've already felt like you've seen it a half dozen times over. One of the beauties of an original show is precisely the fact that there's no source material to spoil what happens next. As we've yet to see how the bowling aspect is set to play out, let the show run. It's not like there's a lack of "cute girls doing sports things" series out there with the same retreaded plots. Let this one relish in a bit of a fanciful hook.

Took the words out of my mouth. It seems surprises and fun are not allowed anymore for some people.

I suppose as presented, it's not wrong to say the girls are "playing bowling." But if they're taking the game and their participation seriously and not just pretending to play, they're bowling. Not playing bowling. One plays baseball, football, volleyball, tennis, cricket, hockey, or soccer. One bowls or skates, with the name of the sport being the gerund of the verb for playing the sport. Golf is an outlier, since one can golf or play golf (the name changes to "golfing" only if one goes golfing. One does not play golfing.) Disciplines like archery, judo and riflery are practiced rather than played. As for curling, I have no idea. Smile Language is a weird and random thing.

I'm here for all your sports grammar needs! Laughing (ok, most - see "curling")

To ptu it bluntly there actually aren't that many. There's a decent amount of sports girls shows, but most of them aren't really *about* the sport. This one seemed like it was actually going to be a competition story. But I guess nobody's actually interested in taking that sort of thing seriously.
