This sequel season is one I've been waiting for. The original almost lost me in the first three episodes because the male lead was so irritating, but once he calmed down, the slice of life vibe and the unusually optimistic romance without a lot of yelling and scheming drew me in.

Welp, episode 1 of season 2 tricked me. It seemed like a fun bit of business as per uze...a nice little transition episode with the same feel good vibes and slice of life details. Ah, there's a callback to the famous fan service scene that tattooed this show on to the public consciousness for good or bad...there's a nice little nod to the experienced cos player they met back in season 1...I wasn't expecting them to suddenly move into a potentially profound character development moment for Goobjo.

I'll give the show props - it would have been very easy to have Marin's friends be disdainful - to emphasize Goobjo's trauma and open up a little drama, and also give Marin an excuse to be his waifu in shining armor. But it makes sense. Marin made it pretty clear in season 1 that she doesn't put up with too cool for school douchebags. These people wouldn't be her friends if they were judgmental jackasses, or at the very least good at hiding it.

That said, the short little brunette's strange look on the stairwell suggests there might be some drama on that front though the nature is unclear.

Really glad this show is back and on track.

That sure was a great episode to start the second season with. The whole thing was filled with passion and that goes for the animation (which looks amazing), the many aspects of cosplaying (things you never really think about) and the show making the most out of every moment (that fake anime was very well done). There was indeed even some character progression for Gojo in realizing that not everyone is judgemental (props to the guy in the store for being so open minded btw). Given the ending there might even be some romantic progress next week.

I was mostly thinking it funny that Gojo was starting to get worried from a guy who was in that moment was dressed the way he was not particularly masculine. Kensei. I really like how quick they were to accept.

It is a familiar experience when being worried about not fitting to certain norms, getting worried about being judged but actually getting back earnest questions without judgement. Hopefully help Gojo be more comfortable with others.

S2, 1:

We back.

I can tell: CloverWorks is having wayyyyy more fun this season than the first season. The first one was cool, but this time? It's running with all the comedic bits. Like, Nichijou-level transitions and comedic bits. And I love it. Like this one:

And this one:

Also, this one keeps me asking: "What are you, fifteen?" And then, I remembered: they are fifteen. Right.

Adorable as always.

P.S. Is Tsukiyono Company a parody of Galaxy Angels? I love that show.

I think that the second episode had the first anime cold that I have seen in a fair while, are they going out of style? The first two segments of the episode showed that Gojo still has absolutely zero self confidence, romantic progress is going to be a difficult thing and Marin is going to face more frustrations. The third segment was great in that it introduced another interesting character, fake boobs seem to be the next cosplay subject for us to learn about.

Why the subbers gotta do Gojo dirty like that, goddamn.

Like I said before, I need to keep telling myself these are fifteen-year olds. POV: "What are you, fif--, oh wait". But I gotta admit: Marin getting a cold scene was incredibly adorable. I mean, that's what the whole show's about, right? Being adorable. Guilty pleasure if you will, but adorable is adorable.

Can I just say this: Gojo's becoming an MVP with his face bits. Gojo has no idea, but this show's making him this season's best (unintended) comic.

I came back from a weekend trip and had a crapton of anime waiting for me, and this one is the first one I went for, so that says something. Second was With You and the Rain by the way.

Anyhow, I still find Goobjo annoying as hell when he goes into full-on spas mode, but fortunately, the incidents are only lasting two minutes before he does something to redeem himself now, whereas it used to take at least half an episode, so that's progress.

And he found acceptance with at least four of Miran's friends this episode, so that's another kind of progress. I still think Miran's Karaoke friend (suguya?) is going to be a source of some kind of drama though. Not sure what kind.

And the pair expanding their number of cosplay contacts ought to be a source of all kinds of new plots and opportunities, so that's cool.

Edited to change an "epsiodes" to "incidents" to avoid repetition.

It looks like this season is focusing on slowly building up Gojo's self acceptance and confidence, and I'm happy about that. I say this because Amano's experience with his ex had so many obvious parallels to Gojo's traumatic incident with his childhood friend that it's hard to imagine Gojo not recognizing it and re-examining his past on some level that even an inner child ought to be a little reassured.

Of course, than we had Gojo going into Goobjo mode as soon as the model coordinator assumed he was Miran's boyfriend, but again, it didn't last too long.

And it should have also been oddly reassuring when Miran made a near cult ceremony out of throwing her favorite anime character a birthday party. Not because he realized she wasn't fundamentally different even though she interacted in a fashion model's world, but because he practically had to restrain himself from saying "This is creepy!" the same way his childhood friend did. Miran really made herself vulnerable there, which I'm assuming is why he was the only invitee.

Yeah, Amano's experience was very similar to Gojo's past in that they both had their passion rejected as being creepy. I think that the former was even worse given that the girlfriend did not even bother to learn more about the situation of her supposed partner, she went into immediate rejection. It makes sense that some worry always remains. I do really hope Gojo gets that confidence booster, including not going into bumbling idiot mode (or atleast less often).

I loved getting more information about the cosplay world. There are so many aspects to it and there seems to be a product for everything, I can see it being quite the expensive interest though.

I like how the first half of the show went.

I guess Amano's story is basically what many cosplayers feel: not fitting into traditional social norms, feeling more confident during cosplay, and recognising how cosplay fits into your life. Most importantly, I like how the show handled Amano's unpleasant story with his previous relationship without letting it become too much of a downer. This is not a cynical show (like say, Oshi no Ko toward the idol industry) after all, but a feel-good one.

Gotta love every awkward moment by Gojo (let's call them "Gojo moments"). The show is pretty guilty of having a lot of fun with it.

With the 4th episode it really feels like the season is about Gojo finding his confidence and accepting that while some people will find his interests weird most/others won't. It was heartwarming to see their class give their support with no people reacting weird to Gojo making outfits. Also kudos to the show for making every fake anime into quite the segment.

Ohhhhkayyy, look. You can make the cultural festival a plot device for the couple's shtick, but you don't have to be painfully obvious about it. Good god.

At first, I thought the Reference Material of the Day was a parody of Ouran High School. Then it turned out to be something more like MariMite. Then, apparently, it's a mix of both? Is that even possible? Interestingly, for a reference material, this show puts in a lot of effort into it, so much that it's enough to be a spin-off on its own or sorts.

The show has indeed never been subtle, plot devices get thrust into your face to make sure you get the point they are trying to make.

I was thinking the whole time he was worried about time that obviously the class would agree to him just focusing on the cosplay. They were already sharing that he was the one behind the creation of the cosplay, and if they are already invested in Marin doing a good one they should agree to him working there. Maybe some aspect that he still thinking of being judged by.

The first season had some ftm crossplay, so it shouldn't be entirely new.
