This is somewhat of an AMV appreciation thread but give the videos a view. Now we all know people make AMVs and among the AMV world there are those that create alternate openings for the anime that they love. Either through use of another song and various animation clips from the show or from the various opening and ending animations. However after I viewed these 2 I felt that these were the best and most well done alternate opening animations I had ever seen. the quality and work that went into the creation of these deserves so much praise and it was really great watching them
Now I know its frowned upon on this site with its forum rules about linking to sites such as youtube and such but I felt that these videos should be viewed by Anime fans because the quality of these vids is just top notch. Now after reading my 2 paragraphs you all are probably wondering what the Anime in the videos are. They are: Baccano and Ouran High School Host Club. The first links are to give an idea of what the original animation is used, the follow up link is to show how the concept and ideas of the opening animation are brought into use with another anime. Baccano is played to the song "Asterisk" which is performed by Orange Range. Ouran High School Host Club is played to "Cruel Angel's Thesis" which is performed by Takahashi Youko. I can't imagine how much time and work you'd have to spend to make a fan opening. Here's one of my favorite fanmade openings:

I've seen a fanmade opening for Kiddy Grade 2 and there were a number of comments to the effect "they should employ this person to make the real opening" and I really disagree. Personally, I prefer my openings to be animated from scratch, not just a collage of clips from the first couple of episodes (Trinity Blood, Stellvia I'm looking at you).

I've never been into fanmade openings myself, but I must say: that one is AWESOME! If I didn't know any better I might have mistaken it for the real thing.

Many of these fanmade openings are done well enough you'd think they were real if you don't know any better, but most just feel like well made AMVs. The convincing factors in these videos for me are the timing of the images along with the music, the addition of production credits, and how well the images go with the song.

I thought the Haruhi/2nd Gig one was really well done. If it was actually used or something though, then it would be too spoilerish, as well as giving a really wrong impression of what the series is like.

It seems to no longer be on youtube (except for an extended version with fan service scenes from the picture dramas) but the "What if Code Geass was a harem anime?" is my personally favorite.

I watch a lot of anime opening parodies on Nico Nico Douga but a lot aren't exclusively anime related. More related to the many memes that go on around there (which sometimes are anime openings). I'm also rather fond of listening to anime openings sung by Hatsune Miku and stuff. They're pretty fun to listen to. Too many of them for me to list here so I guess I'll just post the most recent anime opening I was watching.

Well, I think I've heard enough renditions of Cruel Angel's Thesis tonight.
My personal favorite (and the first "remix-an-anime-with-another-anime" opening I ever saw) is the Bleach / Cardcaptor Sakura crossover: Release! It even comes with a picture-in-picture comparison of the original OP so you can see how perfectly synced it is. Coming in a close second, but more freeform in style, is the Lucky Star / Shugo Chara mix: Motteke! Shugo Chara It's not as polished and mostly involves splicing and dicing from the original OP and bits of the first few episodes, but the scenes and the timing are very well done (the Ikuto ear twitch gets me every time). And since we're here, uh .... Kao Star (Lucky Star OP remixed with EVERYTHING). |
