That sure was a lot of fun, the most fun I have had this season thus far. The show takes all of the villainess tropes along with corrupt noble and fantasy cliches and has Scarlet go completely ham on it all. Her answer to everything is violence and she does it so cheerfully that I cannot imagine ever getting bored of it. It also helps that Scarlet has some fun banter with her brother and the first prince.. I suppose you could poke plenty of holes in the story but who cares when more blood is on the menu.

I almost clicked off in the first three minutes because of the antics of the douchebag prince and his new fiance and their hangers on - I've been seeing a lot of over the top villains-to-the-point-of-stupidity this season - but I got away from the dub, which seems to have been half the problem. I rarely look up voice anime actors and actress' names (it's kind of like not wanting to see special effects explained in director's cut extras), but the one playing Scarlet in the sub is one I've heard a lot and always liked, especially in Chihayafuru where she was Chihaya unless I'm very much mistaken (and I can't rule that possibility out).
There was humor to be had once douche bag was off screen and Scarlet started playing off Julius and vice versa, and this time power of the lead's is pretty interesting. I understand why watching Scarlet bulldoze through gardens full of bs was pretty entertaining for the prince. |

Yes spoiler[Asami Seto] does play Scarlet, and you are remembering correctly that she also played Chihaya in Chihayafuru. Other recent significant roles that you might have heard her perform are:spoiler[ Mai Sakurajima (Rascal does not Dream of ...), Nagi Arato (Ruri Rocks), Raphtalia (Rising of the Shield Hero), Mina Ashiro (Kaiju No. 8), Shisui (Apothecary Diaries), Alpha (Eminence in Shadow), Nano Eiai (100 Girlfriends) as well as Aoi Amawashi (Birdie Wing),] and there's a bunch more listed here if you are interested. Spoiler tagged her name and the in post recent role list, in case you really don't want to know. |

The irony is that Asami Seto also plays Raphtalia from Shield Hero. And Scarlet feels very much like a female Naofumi: a person wrongfully socially stigmatized by corrupt a-holes and just got tired of putting up with theirs and others' bullshit and decided to become an anti-hero kind of character. I mean, she even frees a demi-human from a slave crest. What a coincidence! Writing-wise, while I'd say she's closer to Naofumi, physically (as in powers and abilities), I'd say Scarlet is closer to Sofia from Gorilla God's Go-To Girl, only with speed instead of strength (although, you could argue the speed turns into strength because of physics and whatnot). But yeah, I think this show is all kinds of awesome. She literally doesn't pull her punches, and even got to punch out the two main d-bag characters within the first episode, which feels completely and utterly refreshing, especially with a female lead. The back and forth mind games she keeps playing with Julius are also fun to watch. I feel like there's way more to that guy than meets the eye. And it should be cool to see him eventually reveal what scheme-y things he's got up his sleeve. Such a fun show in just the two episodes, so far. |

I did say it's *kind of* like not wanting to see explanations of special effects I don't run away from the computer screen screaming and holding my eyes if I see voice actress credits, and there are at least 6 to a dozen Japanese voice actors and actresses whose voices I immediately recognize because they're so distinct and always bring something extra to any anime they appear in. I was half justifying my laziness, but there is an element of truth in the idea that I'm not the type who enjoys spending a lot of time thinking about how the anime aren't anime and deconstructing the production process. For some people, that's part of their appreciating the anime, and that's cool. |

I wanted to say I groaned a bit at the 'villainess' character being humiliated by prince fiancé by his new squeeze, but I think the most recent example I didn't find a problem with, I think 7th Time Loop, which I liked and so was curious. I was very delighted when she put on knuckle gloves, started by punching the new girl and then moved onto beating the crowed of men there to delight in her embarrassment. Kind of being like Tifa Lockheart but both colder and clearly enjoying.
The first prince also the fun variety, where I was particularly happy that it isn't just a being sweet thing, but he pokes at her in a fun way bit and she is pissed back at anything that is condescending. Also, she went from possibly getting in trouble from punching a prince, to said prince being disowned and her being considered valuable. I think that this might be, so far, my favourite beginning of show of the season. |

I will never grow tired of Scarlet showing off how strong she is. That former A rank adventurer seemed like he might be able to put up a decent fight but not so much. I also have to applaud her for holding back when necessary. The first prince meanwhile is great at pushing Scarlet's buttons and has feelings for her of some kind. I suppose for him never being bored might be enough to want to be together forever. The most interesting bit is the end with the goddess seemingly giving out special artifacts to baddies like they are candy. The baddies being corrupt and greedy I get but why would a goddess work with them. |

Welp, I for one am far from convinced that whatserface is actually a goddess. It seems just as likely that she might be the evil version of Scarlet for this anime's purposes. But if she is a goddess, there's no rule that says she has to be a good one.
I thought it was a fun episode. I enjoyed all of Scarlet's character interactions - from the beast kin to the prince to the lycanthrope. I appreciated the little insights into Scarlet and the prince's pasts. |

A flintlock pistol?! That was quite a jump in technology. Looks like its from around the early 1700's. Who knew they even had gunpowder. If they have cannons, then even those dragon riders should be afraid.
I did like the part about "punishing" that lycanthrope. He got what he deserved. What goes around, comes around. |

I am not sure if you can speak of technology when it was supposedly a gift from god. It seems more likely to run on magic somehow than any actual gunpowder. I also do not think whatserface is a goddess herself but she does seem close to one and her role goes further than simple villain.

Well, this should prove to be interesting, however it unfolds.

Well it looks like this is a reincarnated in another world series, only the main character is not the reincarnated person, it is the villain.
I wonder if that is the case is this a world an RPG game in our world, if so is Scarlet suppose to be the villain? |

Very interesting indeed. It was clear that Terenezza was more than a simple lady but her being from a different world (surprise isekai) and still being supported by that goddess is something else. It poses the question what her plan is since she is doing a lot to change the global power balance. There is also the question of why the goddess is going along with it (or giving out instructions to do so). Otherwise the episode was a lot of fun action with Scarlet having a ball of a time (including beating up a dragon and sturdy prince). |

I don't know, but I am guessing her backstory from her previous life, she is a girl that got bullied a lot. And this is all an act of rage. She can't get back at her bullies from her previous life, but this is the closest way possible. If this is an RPG game, Scarlet is so OP, previous life Terenezza is probably a frustrated gamer having to deal with Scarlet as a video game character. I thought last week before this information, that Terenezza was at the very least the in verse of Scarlet, in that she also wants to destroy the nobles but from the inside out, and from a sneaky manipulative way oppose to Scarlet who wants to take everything head on. |
