This Spinoff: Gintama: Mr. Ginpachi's Zany Class (TV) Main Series: Gintama (TV) (discussed here) Source: Light Novel (completed @ 4 volumes, written by Tomohito Oosaki, illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi) Demographic: Shounen Animation Studio: Bandai Namco Pictures Genres: comedy Themes: parody, school Plot Summary: The spin-off anime to Gintama follows Ginpachi Sakata as a teacher in Gintama High School. Air Date & Platform: October 06, 2025 (Monday) Available on: Crunchyroll Episode Count / Runtime: Pending ---------------------------------- As popular as the franchise is, I did a bunch of searching for the main series but didn't really find a dedicated thread, so I took a couple from Anime, merged them into one, moved it to Series Discussion and just added a placeholder opener to it, for now. I've not seen or read any of this franchise, so I have no idea what to put in the genre and theme tags, aside from what I can find on the Internet. But here's your spinoff thread. |

That all sounds good to me.
The original show started out more comedy than fighting show, imho, but the mix switched about half way through to "start story arc with comedy, then becomes regular fighting show." I think the manga was originally in Shonen Jump magazine, but that hardly matters. Myself, I'm hoping the comedy doesn't run quite as crude as it sometimes did in the original. |

The first episode was very much more of the classic Gintama humor and that did include come crude gags (including the good old rectal kunai). I had a fun enough time (it was great hearing the voice actors together again) but it is clear that being a fan or at least familiar with the main show is crucial. I am honestly not sure how much enjoyment you can get out of the show otherwise.

Well, I'm a fan and this is just painful, like watching someone you really liked turn into Aqualung. I barely made it through these two episodes, and didn't laugh once. I always really enjoyed the Ginpachi-sensei shorts, and I love Gintoki in glasses, but the try-hard in this is excruciating. I'll give it next week for the return of Takasugi, but I'm probably out after that.

The segments do seem hit or miss. The test segment of episode 2 was pretty fun while the student counceling went on for a bit too long.

I honestly can't tell if the third episode was more serious than the previous two or less. There is no fourth wall to speak off and all of the characters are very aware of their role in the main show with even some blatant flashbacks to it included. It is very wacky but it is entertaining enough to keep me watching. |

Yeah, Takasugi's return was worth sticking around for. I liked that the episode even called me out on it.

That was another fun episode, I always enjoy the cliched nightly visit to the school and the show did it well. It being Gintama means that some of the gags were actually scarier than the (supposed) ghost at the end. It was also a nice showcase of how utterly crazy some of the students are with a certain gorilla being rather creepy. No principal this week and I agree that he is annoying. |

I was wondering if mister hard boiled was ever going to show up and he thankfully did. It sounds impossible but he is even more useless than he was in the main show. The big clean up was a lovely mess with plenty of lotion. |

A wild episode in many ways. Between the huge brawl and the fourth wall not being a thing with the discussion at the end I do not even know what to feel anymore. The episode felt like a finale and judging by the preview for next week it kind of was. |

What can you even say about the final episode. |
