I'm not a woman so maybe someone will enlighten me, but I had to pause halfway through the pilot. A girl who wrote a self-insert into her story that gets SAed in the first chapter?? I could kinda get it if there was a twist where the whole reason she wanted to be reincarnated was because of such childhood trauma but the tone of the episode in no way matches that kinda plot

Overall it was quite messy and hard to keep up, but wasn't bad or boring enough to not watch the next episode

Thats 100% believable to me as teenage writing. Glosses over the trauma and pain for the insert of that happening to them (which a teenager easily doesn't understand well), writes it in as it having happens allows them to be someone who has overcome struggle and can engender sympathy at will. Essentially a lazy way of making their characters golden path "merited".

Sympathetic Sue is a TV Tropes page for a reason.

Also, teenage girls are horny.

Too much insert song!

Yeah, this week makes clear its also about being able to write about/include sex while hiding ones desire for sexual content. Certainly, its on point on this kind of side commentary.

OTOH I do find the tone and pacing kind of weird. The more its meta the better it is, the parts where it plays it straight its just a little too generic. Not sure how deep I'll go with this one.

Ep 8: The story has started moving smoothly in the last few episodes, how it's told is not bad even if you take the cheesy Countess B. knock-off plot unironically. Counting the intentional irony and that the jokes are landing for me now much better than in the first episodes, it's quite fun watch. Different in style from many other "villainess" shows in being much more meta, and in a good way.

Its got a kind of odd pacing where its frantic and regularly seems to take 90 degree turns, but considering the meta is that this world is basically based on "My Immortal" it makes sense and it usually makes it work at least well enough. Its not high fiction or anything but I'm reasonably entertained.

So it's done, and the final arc was also a good one. Overall rather liked the whole thing, it properly felt like a sympathetic but messily drawn shoujo manga. Animation quality was in accordance with that, but acceptable also in action scenes, where corners seemed to be obviously cut but things still worked OK (unlike in some recent isekai shows where animation just fell apart in some scenes). The story progression even if taken unironically is still better than what many shows manage to muster, and of course it lampshaded itself here all the time.

The soundtrack on the other hand did not really work. There was some music, but including the OP it all sounded mostly out of place.
