For a second I thought that said Goodbye Eri, and was disappointed it was live-action Laughing Honestly I just want news of Goodbye Eri getting animated, but the prospect of a live-action Look Back appealing to the wider masses isn’t bad, either!
And wow, Koreeda? You can’t get more prestigious than that in today’s Japanese film industry!

Wonder if Yonezu Kenshi’ll do the theme song Anime catgrin

Kore-eda is a talented director, but the animated adaptation is a generational masterclass and I don't really know what a live-action film brings to the table besides having something for people who think animation is for children and that finally it can be a real movie

I see it as more of a why not type of thing, not a thing where people think "finally a movie thats not animation"

I think the story can adapt to live-action even if I feel like it'll be top to beat the anime movie.

My thoughts exactly! Where's love for 'Goodbye Eri'? Actually it would be perfect for live action movie, more so than animated one IMO!

The problem with Eri is that it's built different. The style Fujimoto used to tell that story can become a tiresome if it's a film unless they somehow make it far shorter.

The "why not" in this case is that you already have an amazing adaptation that visually depicts the limitless depths of the imagination and the process of creation in a way that live-action won't be able to match. Not to mention "why not" isn't exactly the strongest starting point for any creative endeavor lol

As others mentioned, there are various other Fujimoto works that would fit live-action much better. So when the impetus for a film is "why not, this thing is popular so we can make even more money on it by doing it again" it's hard to feel all that excited about it
