I feel vindicated. This show is 10x worse than most Shonen people can name. Whenever I hear someone claim that JJK or whatever is the worst show of the year, it’s clear they haven’t actually watched anything of Tougen’s caliber.

The manga gets even worse after this, BTW. As if it wasn’t bad enough, it adds more shock value and intentionally ugly/unlikable characters, and the plot gets more repetitive.

This remains a show that is remarkable for being unremarkable, even if it does at least try to establish some sort of plot which pokes at how stupid and destructive holding a generational grudge can be, a good lesson mind you, but one that Shakespeare kind of nailed a while back.

There are some fun bits, the animation isn’t awful, but it is a very plain show. But it’s better plain than incompetent I suppose.

This is, hands-down, probably one of the worst shounen series I've ever seen.

Honey you haven’t seen Dead Account yet. It’s worse than this one.

Ah, yes, the blood demon show. I never finished the first season because it just looked like it was going to get too shouneny for my tastes by expanding the magic rather than exploring the world. I liked the core idea of "Hey, Momotaro, demons are people too!" but the show wasn't interested in its own plot over its style

Honestly, those two should fight for the title of worst shounen.

The fight would be really boring and poorly written.

I haven’t read the Dead Account manga, but you could make the case that the anime is let down by atrocious production values.

It's no Gachiakuta but I honestly like the main character more than Dead Account's main character. It's unfortunate the second half of the first season was lackluster in terms of plot development. The typical betrayal/tool trope from the naive partner was pedestrian but I'd happily watch Tougen Anki compared to Dead Account or any of the pathetic shounen/seinen fanservice offerings this season and last season.

The manga art is pretty nice for Dead Account, I'll admit that

Based on everything I've been hearing about this series, what I really have to wonder is… how'd this get the prestigious Friday Anime Night timeslot?

I mean, Magilumiere wasn't as big a title as Frieren, The Apothecary Diaries, or TenSura. But from what y'all are saying, this sounds like a way more questionable choice for "shows to put in front of the normies who just finished watching Home Alone/Wish/Zootopia/Thermae Romae/The Boy and the Beast/etc.".

This series was very popular in Japan, it pulled roughly what Slime did on the slot. Magi-Lumiere was the one that tanked hard on the slot.

which is the reason why tougen aniki is getting a second season, while a more superior shonen series ragna crimson is not getting any second season AT ALL!

. is it a good shounen series? NOPE! but it is enjoyable!

and to be frank, IT IS TEN TIMES BETTER THAN THE ABOMINATION THAT WAS UBEL BLATT LAST YEAR!

WHICH BTW WILL FOREVER BE KNOWN AS THE WORST SHONEN ADAPTATION IN ANIME HISTORY RIGHT ALONGSIDE THE PROMISED NEVERLAND!
