That sure was an effective premiere for delivering plenty of questions that I want to know the answers to. I have no idea who to root for since both sides seem pretty not okay. On one hand we have soldiers and people with powers very willing to kill but Asa changing into some kind of blood demon thingy when she was killed also makes me take pause. Then again, given that Yuru can supposedly control two powerful deamons who knows if that means anything bad. The switch from medieval to modern was a fun one. |

Yeah, this looks very cool. Episode did a HORRIBLE job of making me not interested. Onwards!

The episode leaves me with almost no idea if I'll enjoy the overall show or not, it's 100% setup. However, since I decidedly enjoyed the episode it certainly gets another week.

I had a little bit of caution going in just because of how many references to the creator of Full Metal Alchemist were made after so many years. I remember how the whole Lazarus hype train...well, it didn't derail, but I don't think it ever went faster than twenty miles an hour.
But I was really hooked here. I have no idea who the bad guy is - is the "real" Asa trying to liberate him because the village is an elaborate prison? Or are the intruders a sinister organization trying to bring about some awful prophecy or whatever? The girl with the Cheshire Cat like summons seemed like a sociopath, but she didn't hurt kids, and if the villagers were stone cold villains....but the girl with the Gobbler summons didn't exactly comfort the little kid either... Anyhow, the show has me guessing and looking for clues, and the action and pace were compelling, and the set-up with the modern technology and ancient settings and mystery were great. So...yeah. High hopes. |

I am not sure that there are clear to point out bad guys here. It sounds like there are several clans with each having people with daemons. Not sure where that leaves granny and her village but given that their Asa is a fake I think that Yuru leaving the mountain is a good thing. Kudos to Yuru for not being useless, he does not need Left and Right to take care of business. Him leaving the mountain and getting used to modern times and there being all sorts of special beings in the world should prove interesting. |

Y'know Smurky, you asked me what I thought of this new season, and I basically said that it was going to have a lot of pressure on it considering how good Winter 2026 was.
I'm thinking this is going to wind up being a strong season on its own merits. Honestly, the only thing that hurts it by my comparison is that I think Winter 2026 had five powerhouse shows (although I don't know that everyone would agree with me that Journal With Witch And Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider were powerhouse shows. And Winter 2026 had Sentenced to Be a Hero to boot. Well, Winter probably had a little more variety too. I bring this up because it's still early days, but I think both Witch Hat Atelier and this anime have the potential (relax, I said potential) to join the ranks of A grade, modern classics-in-the-making prime anime in the future if they live up to the opening episodes' promise. And I don't know that my hopes for Dandelion premiering on April 16th go that high, but they're high. |

I basically enjoyed this episode, theres a facility to quickly introduce characters with a broad persona that makes them interesting/fun (as per FMA), pacing is brisk and the mysteries are interesting.
I do have two concerns: a) There are a lot of mysteries. So many that I don't, in a real sense, actually understand what the underlying plot is. Shows with so many mysteries are basically making a promise that the underlying solutions and interesting and have some depth and weight behind them; when they don't pay off, it can really hurt a show. Hopefully they do! b) We start to get jokes this episode. I'm in a minority here, but I basically find Hiromu Arakawa (mostly) painfully unfunny. So far its pretty brief and works as character moments; I'm just hoping we don't get the really extended "bits" (as per FMA). Well, I guess I tend to find it easier to write critique than compliments, which is my failing. The shows good fun so far with an imaginative world and I imagine I'll watch the whole season. |

Eh, I don't think they gave any explanation remotely close to justifying mass murdering the villagers. Maybe there is one, but my willingness to play along with Asa and Gabby's humanity is pretty low until it's provided. I'm definitely on team "mysteries that are mysterious for the sake of being mysterious are lame." They haven't done anything to get me to actually care about any of the mysteries they're setting up. The fact that the Daemons all come in pairs makes the translation even more bizarre, since the Japanese word literally means "pair." |

And another anime that made it past my 3-episode trial period. Geez, today they just keep running across home plate.
As to whether the MC's village is good or evil (or how good or evil) the fact that they're using some magic that is pretty gross at the very least (and probably dark) to create some kind of shadow clone in order to basically enslave Yuru forcing him to stay by her supposedly invalid side out of love and concern is pretty nasty. Now maybe they're doing it for what they perceive as a good cause - like keeping the world from being torn apart by war and destruction as the birth of magic twilight twins seems to help along somehow - but if so, it's the old question about doing bad things for a good cause. I'm enjoying watching the MC reverse isekai his way into the modern world, and I like the two guardian spirits. Am I really going to have to call them Right and Left? The female getaway driver seems fun too. I particularly enjoyed the part where she pulled out some brass knucks and said that line she said. |

We don't even know if the village people knew what was going on. And no, "pretty nasty" in this context, where the "victim" in question doesn't seem particularly troubled, doesn't leave me with a lot of "good enough for mass murder" feelings.
I think the show is just way too stingy with the mysteries for me. I just haven't been given a reason to care about any of them. Saturday is pretty packed for me, I doubt I'm coming back for Ep 4. |

E1: watched it and felt old, somehow this sort of shounen stuff is just not very exciting any more. Another problem is the contrast with the Elfen Lied level violence and the tone, it doesn't look like that was everyday stuff for the villagers, but Yuru and the other guy were pretty blase about it.

3/4:
The show is not one for moving slowly. Given episode 3 I thought that we might get a few calm episodes and then get started with finding real Asa. With Yuru just blitzing to his target things will likely advance pretty fast. If Yuru indeed meets up with Asa next week then I wonder what direction things will go. Given the opening team Yuru and Asa do not seem openly hostily to each other so maybe some kind of shared goal. |

Yeah, right now it seems pretty likely that the Yuru and Asa sides are not going to be hostile going forward, at least for a little while. Given that so many factions/people are after the twins that is likely a good thing. I am surprised that the whole ''murdering nearly an entire village'' thing was not mentioned during the conversation though. It has not yet been established that the people living there were scum and Yuru did grow up there so it feels like sloppy writing to just not mention it at all. Besides that there were some fun gags and that guy with the moth is extremely suspect. |

People say Yuru is revamped Alphonse, but to me he's more Ed, with Al's hair. They even keep making short jokes about him. Yet it's Gabby who's decked out in Ed's colors.
