Cartoon Network was such a formative and pivotal channel for me, and TCM is, IMO, the best and most important TV channel right now.
RIP

He was an interesting guy. Like yeah no such thing as an ethical billionaire but he was one of the first to call out Israel’s treatment of Palestinians back in like 2000 and advocated for universal healthcare.

I think that Ted Turner also single-handedly saved TV animation in the 90s when it was going down in the dumps. Without Cartoon Network, Toonami and Adult Swim as we know it wouldn’t even exist!

Turner is (indirectly) responsible for anime being mainstream thanks to Cartoon Network, and directly responsible for a lot of other things including cable television as well know it. He was the last of a breed of billionaires that had other goals besides wealth. The bison herds his restaurant chain Montana Grill ended up supporting are proof of that. And he wasn’t perfect, not in the least, but he was responsible for a lot in entertainment we take for granted.

Ted was a "liberal" billionaire, which back then, and even now was a supposedly horrible thing. The right wing and libertarians gave him a lot of crap for that. Imagine.

I mean compared to most Billionaires he be considered a saint. Only Billionaire I can think of on his level is Mark Cuban. Dude is one of the key reasons Atlanta is so big today. RIP.

Cartoon Network may not be the same channel I grew up with, but it was still an important part of my childhood nonetheless. RIP Ted Turner. You were one of the few good TV execs.
