I hope his voice is not removed from an eventual Bluray release. I’d love to hear his voice cameo.

I wonder if the backlash is connected to Yamamoto's retirement or if he was looking to quit anyway.
Honestly, the way they went about this was awful. I can understand wanting to put fanservice in, and if this was a different show or a different VA I'd be all for it. But, in this situation...
They made a big statement when they replaced Sakurai, and then brought him back (albeit in a cameo role).
They advertised this film as being about the plight of women but rehired the guy who mentally abused two women.
They enforced a no spoilers allowed embargo on cinema goers so people didn't learn Sakurai was in it until they saw it.
I know there were people who were happy to hear him again, but I saw a LOT of complaints on Twitter. Many weren't just upset at Sakurai being in it, but the way the staff backtracked their original statement and weaselled out of announcing he was cast. They took away a lot of people's ability to choose whether to support something Sakurai was cast in.
This is a very unfortunate note to finish the film series on.

Really, they made a big show about firing this jagoff and then let him have a cameo? Get outta here. Dude should be done as a voice actor anyway considering his behavior. It's gonna be awkward when SqEx promotes the next FFVII game and basically has to do promotion around him. You guys had ONE job

You'd love to hear the cameo of an unfaithful swine?

I wonder what the chances are that the English dub will have Andrew Francis reprise the original medicine seller from the Ayakashi anthology for the cameo.

You're acting like he killed someone. He cheated on his wife. Crappy thing to do but hardly unredeemable or enough to make someone persona non grata.

Sorry, I didn't mean it like that. I just thought he'd be blacklisted or something like that. That's the impression I got after reading the article.

Yeah this all sounds like a massive over-exaggeration. Are we just gonna start banning voice actors or anyone from literally doing or saying anything in their private and personal life that we just don't like? Frankly this is disgusting entitled, tabloid trash TMZ-like behavior and you should be ashamed of even attempting to think this is your place to throw a fit over.
This kind of stupid crap is why Aya Hirano got such massively uncalled for abuse and career trashing just because she had some flaws in her personal life that weren't nearly as much as anyone's business that they thought, because she liked having sex with lots of men and it went against her "wholesome" image, pissed off fans for just saying a few things they didn't like and she had a minor battery charge after having a breif physical altercation with her husband that she rushed into a relationship with, had a fight and then had a divorce from. Japanese chuds en-masse thought this was a matter that somehow concerned them, and it did not. As a result she suffered more death threats and merch burning than she ever deserved, because sad, pathetic parasocial otaku are psychotically obsessed about the purity of their pedestal-throned god-idols to the point where they can't even conceive of the idea that they might be human beings.
Not like westerners are any better, trying to get James Gunn blacklisted from the entire industry and trying to cost him major jobs on films because he once said some comments on twitter 13 years ago people didn't think was funny. Oh boo hoo.
Outside of literally sexually assaulting a minor or pulling a Chris Benoit, are we really ok with lowering the bar so far that we start going all all self-righteous Karen and start destroying the entire career of anyone on a whim who has an extramarital affair, was caught engaging in recreational marijuana use, used an abelist r-word on social media 20 years ago, or has an unpaid parking ticket?
Is this the kind of garbage that we really have to shift the goal-post for "career ruining act" to, just to make us feel superior about some social justice magic wand powers we love to think we have about every goddamn negative thing any human being could ever do that barely actually affects us on the fan level?
Moreoever shouldn't an issue between two grown adults like an affair be the sole jurisdiction of their own business between the two of them and a divorce court, rather than the self-righteous career killing power trip of a bunch of terminally online gossip whores and Shonen Jump Weekly outrage kiddies who are grandly overreacting into the private affairs of people that aren't them and they have nothing to do with and no actual stake in?
Seriously, the guy didn't stab a goddamn baby through the neck and watch it as the life left it's 8 month old corpse.... he was unfaithful to his wife. An affair I'm sure is already humiliating enough to both parties involved as the courts, and they, try to find a way past this ordeal without us having to pretend it's our friggin' business at all, or to dictate how this should or shouldn't effect a few lines of dialogue in a goddamn anime?
If you people think this is the line where something gets to deeply matter to you or you have some delusional obsession to think you're involved in things that you absolutely aren't, then you clearly need far more productive lives of your own to concern yourselves with.
Again, short of a sexual assault or a negligent or purposeful loss of human life, this is not a matter that needs or deserves fanboy input, nor is it your place to be passing this disproportionate level of judgement on. Get over yourselves and touch some grass. Holy jeez.

And frankly, they are right to.
You people aren't involved. This isn't your business.

What he did was wrong, but I don't think a mistake in someone's personal life erases all of their professional contributions. I think he is a good voice actor, and am saying that hearing the cameo would be meaningful for me to connect all Mononoke projects so far.

Let me be clear - it’s not Sakurai’s return that bothers me but the flip-flopping of the anime staff that’s more of an issue

Hey yo, he didn't make "a mistake," he spent years lying to the woman he was having an affair with about basically everything about himself, to the point that when she found out the truth and realized their whole relationship was a lie she had a nervous breakdown. This isn't about infidelity, this is about rape by deception. They don't have the legal concept in Japan (or in all US states unfortunately) so the best we can do is make him pay professional consequences.

Wouldn't it only be "rape by deception" even in those jurisdictions only if he literally disguised himself as her husband or lover?
