I've actually taken many of these recomendations to heart and went out and got a few of these shows. But I didn't see my favorite on here!-Toradora!, maybe it wasn't liked as much by other as it was by me-but the whole series kept me hooked.
I wont get in to too much, but it revolves around a rather rude highschool girl, and a troubled highschool boy. Despite their immediate dislike for each other they make a pact to help eachother win over their crushes. The storyline gets really deep after the first half of the series and the show has a really satisfying ending(imo). Edit:My bad it seems Mninja2500 recently mention the series on this thred :O |

Heh, FYI Toradora is probably one of the most, if not the most, talked about romantic comedy on this forum, unless you include Suzumiya Haruhi (which I wouldn't _really_ call a lovecom). But yeah the thread is like 50-something pages long. Trust me you are not the only one that liked it
I would recommend that here too. Toradora was excellent. |

What's a good romance movie (anime, of course)? I haven't watched any straight up romance animes, so anywhere would be a good place to start. A humorous aspect would be nice, and I don't mind nudity/language/explicit content etc. Just anything good.

I can't really think of anything standalone, that didn't have series attached to it. You could watch the Kimagure Orange Road movies you don't really have to have seen the series to enjoy them as they give you enough backstory.
EDIT: Scratch that, going through my list I found The Place Promised in Our Early Days, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and Whisper of the Heart. All of which have been previously mentioned and described uptread. I'd still recomend the KOR movies though. If you enable your My Anime list into public mode it would be helpful as we can see what you've seen and better recommend stuff. |

Oh, thanks for the recs! I've actually seen Whisper of the Heart and The Girl Who Leapt Through time for the first time each recently haha. I'll check out the other one though.
I haven't actually done anything to the my anime list I should probably get on that. |

Even though there's nothing romantic on The Girl Who Leap Through Time? Last edited by egoist on Sat Aug 22, 2009 8:31 pm; edited 1 time in total |

There is only one anime movie that I have seen that is not in this thread already that is romance.
Ponyo was romantic in a special way. I wouldn't call it romance but it as a certain element to it. No kising or cursing it's just a story of a boy and his spoiler[ magical fish blob who is a mermaid I guess? ] It has more of the friendship love vibe to it rather than dating but still very romantic, but I am a hopeless romantic. Princess Mononoke was good but the action far outplayed the romance. |

I'd go with Samurai X - The Motion Picture, nothing humorous there though. Seen it and really enjoyed it and will rewatch it sometime soon when I get the time to. Last edited by egoist on Sat Aug 22, 2009 8:37 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Nothing romantic? The main point of conflict in the movie is that Makoto doesn't want to confront the possible shift from friendship to romance with one of her two male friends. A secondary issue is the awkward romantic confession of a minor character to one of them. It's a little more subtle in its handling of boy/girl issues than some titles mentioned in this thread, possibly, but I'd still say it qualifies as romance. You like capital "H"? |

Mninja2500, you cannot just list favorites without commentary. That makes what you're doing a pure listing post, which is against forum rules.
Please revise your post, or it may be deleted. |

To my list of romance anime movie recommendations .Metal., I am adding Sailor Moon S The Movie. No need to know anything about Sailor Moon prior to watching; they sort of breif you at the start. It has a lot to do about lonliness but Sailor Moon and her prince have a fair bit of romance. There is also some hints at spoiler[ her prince and the current bad guy having a relationship, but I assure you nothing offensive.] It is a really sweet story and will leave you saying, "Awwww." At sixty minutes it's easy to watch in one sitting without having to carry on with other things.
Bad news is the dub is awful. The subs are nice but you prolly will run into trouble when trying to find a physical copy. The good news is that once your hooked there are 200 episodes, 2 other movies, and 5 specials to sink your teeth into. It is also called Sailor Moon and the Promise of the Rose. Hope you enjoy. |

Mine is the movie adaptation of Mamoru Nagano's The Five Star Stories because I fell in love with the love story between Ladios Sopp and Fatima Lachesis. The film was well made and I felt of all the romance animes I have seen, the love story between Sopp and Lachesis was the best. I truly reccommend The Five Star Stories for a beautifully made romance story between two people.

I'm also looking for a recommendation... since it's so difficult to find a good series with a romance plot that isn't overly dramatic and emotional, but at the same time doesn't have the shallow lovey-dovey stuff. On top of all, it has to have a happy end (or at the very least it can't have a tragic ending, implied or otherwise).
Examples of series with romance plot lines I like: Spice and Wolf takes first place, then Planetes, REC, FMP, Elfen Lied (despite the tragic part, I consider those last few moments as a happy end), Love Hina, Welcome to the NHK and Bakemonogatari - in no particular order, since all those have their own special qualities. I would prefer something short and sweet, like REC, though finding something like that would be too good to be true, wouldn't it, so I don't mind any kind of recommendation. I know Kare Kano is good, but afaik the anime wasn't finished, so it probably won't deliver the (more or less) happy end I'm looking for? |

I haven't finished it, but enjoyed the beginning and now will: Ristorante Paradiso. Just got a very good review here on ANN, if you don't mind the streaming. Certainly unique in premise, definitely romantic but not your usual setup, as in the show is set in an Italian restaurant with what at first glance looks like a squicky reverse harem (but isn't).
EDIT: Mister V, don't be put off Kare Kano by what you hear about the ending. Anno of Evangelion fame directed it and left before it ended, so there's controversy. It did apparently run out of money so ironically the production value of the end feels like the way Evangelion was handled production-wise even though Anno was gone (but not at all psychologically the same). It's great writing and story, though. It won't "disappoint" you at the end, other than those production values and probably wishing there were more of it. A must see for any romance fan.
