I've read on this forum several times that a lot of people seem to prefer the Love Hina manga over the anime. It's the opposite for me though- I've seen 2 DVDs of the anime and loved it, but I hated the one manga volume I read. I love the romance and comedic character actions, but dislike the fan service (I'm a gal, so it's not meant for me anyway ). I think the reason for my love of the TV series is that the fan service tends to be spread out over each 25 minute episode, but a shorter manga chapter must have contain the same amount of ecchi humor to keep its audience reading every week. Put all those chapters together in one tankobon and it's too much!
However. since everyone else seems to love the manga, I'd love to hear why. If the manga truly has some redeeming qualities, I'd be willing to give it a second look.

Well, here goes.
I am a Love Hina fan. It was the first manga series that I collected. Of course, there's always no accounting for taste, but I have a few reasons for myself liking the manga more than the anime (and I enjoyed the anime..)
1: The manga is 14 volumes. The story and characters are much more fleshed more.
2: Ken Akamatsu's art is very well done, and is much better drawn than the anime.
3: The manga keeps going after the Ep. 26 and all the specials. The manga has a far better ending. And don't ever speak of the horror that is Love Hina Again...
4: Again, in the manga, there is much more characterization. Keitaro and Naru's relationship evolves more convincingly, as do the relationships to the other characters.
5: I just found it funnier. That's completely a matter of opinion.
Hope this helps. To be honest, it does pick up around the middle of Vol. 2 and on into Vol. 3, espically when they meet Mutsumi.

I have just about the same reasons as The Ramblin Wreck.
The anime's animation is also just too ugly for me to focus on, and I really didn't like the voice acting. I liked them better in my head.
Plus, it was my first "right to left" manga, so it is special. I find myself getting no other urge to get the anime at all. I downloaded a few episodes, and got sorta disgusted :/

Yep, pretty much as stated above.
I thought the TV animation was really horribly ugly compared to the manga work, it was more dramatically stupid (the TV bashings of Keitaro were more focused on and eleborate than in the manga).
And the manga story is (as is usually the case with manga that was created before anime) much nicer and satisfying.

what everyone else said, and that it has a great closure to the series. In the anime version, even after Love hina Again, it still feels as if they left it open for more, whereas in the manga you know it is over at the end. But I do wish to see more of Naru and Keitaro after they marry, and how they deal with kids..if they have kids.

You're absolutely right. The ending is probably the main reason that I like the manga over the anime. Oh, Love Hina Again was horrible....

The other characters are better fleshed out in the manga. In the beginning, I hated Motoko but by the end of the manga, she was by far my favorite character as she grew the most. We also saw another part to her that the anime just (barely) touched on.
Give the manga more than just one volume. I had issues with it early on but, after volume 3 (or 4), I was hooked.

At first I liked the anime enough to keep watching; it wasn't exactly Miyazaki, but anything that reminds me of my college days is worth a rent, if not a buy. But when you get deeper into the show it becomes all filler episodes for a long stretch; I gave up halfway through. I haven't read enough of the manga to really compare the two, though.

The manga gets into more detail about relationships and gives the characters a lot more depth than in the anime. You also get to appreciate all the characters in the manga as each character has at least three chapters that is focused mainly one them. Unlike the anime which mainly focuses on Keitaro. And another reason i don't like the anime is the Keitaro carbon copy known as Kentaro. He's funny but just weird.

The main reason why I was disappointed with the anime was because the ENTIRE series deals with Keitaro's crush on Naru and hints that they might like each other, etc. but you never really see them together. I'm a sucker for romance, so I moved to the manga to get my fill of that stuff.

My biggest few complaints about the anime center around the terrible art firstly. The anime art is wretched compared to the beautiful work of the manga.
Secondly - the anime changes a lot of the story around, combines chapters and adds pointless characters. The characters in the story are not fleshed out enough and the flow of the anime is terrible.

I'm curious why many people don't like the anime artwork. I really liked the character design in the anime. Am I missing something?
As for me, I liked the anime and the manga for different reasons. The manga really is more fleshed out, especially with the character development. I liked the anime, though, because I thinks some of the visuals really worked better in an animated format. I also liked some of the touches added to to the anime. For example, that silent movie feel at the begining the episode where Motoko was introduced.
