The concert used a screen installed at the back of the stage to project Hatsune several stories tall before a standing-room-only crowd of 25,000.

Sharon Apple anyone...?

If I recall correctly, they did do a hologram for the Genki Rockets performance at Live Earth Tokyo, also a virtual singer. She then introduced, ahem, "Mister Allgore."

So was there a hologram, or was it as it appears to be in that Youtube video: just a flat video of Miku on a giant screen? Disappointing in either case (the second case more so) if she's several stories high. It should've been life-sized instead of giantastic.

SHARON! SHARON! SHARON! I wonder if they will play "after in the dark" or "Santi-U" LOL. Where is Yoko Kanno when we need her? Someone needs to hook her up to the computer so we can see what is really going on in that head of hers!

It wasn't long ago that she performed in Japanese Playstation Home - for live people, in a virtual setting.

Also yeah, it's hard not to think "Sharon Apple" especially with the holograms. I also remember the "first virtual idol singer" DK-96, who's practically forgotten now...

Besides Sharon Apple, this reminds of "Key the Metal Idol" a bit.

With idol singers being thrown into a machine to control robotic puppets on stage.

The actual idol is no longer necessary, it seems.

For a "virtual idol", that certainly is a lot of people. I wonder how Japan does this.

No, he was supposed to do a full-fledged concert with this sort of setup, but was cancelled Sad.
