Minato is not trying to sell the place. It belongs to a distant relative and was for sale before he got there, he is just the caretaker. It didn't sell earlier because of the evil spirits clustered on the place. Minato dispelled them when he arrived.
Amaterasu as a major, national goddess would have a primary shrine, likely near a major city or physical landmark. That is where the actual goddess resides. All the lesser shrines would have lesser manifestations of the goddess (sort of like a clone). This really minor shrine would have had a very minor manifestation. Since the shrine has been abandoned the manifestation is in hibernation. At least that is what seems to be logical to me. Probably bad theology though.

@Alan45 Yah, from what I understand - which is a pretty shallow and general understanding - Japan mythology/religion is an intersection of several influences, with Buddhist and Shinto and Taiwanese gods occasionally becoming the equivalent of hit crossover artists. Factor in yoki and kami being able to spring up all over the place as one of the precepts and objects being able to take on sentience over time and it gets confusing. But the idea that all the minor Shinto shrines have department store Santa versions of their gods doesn't just sound like shaky theological ground to me; it sounds like it would register 6.0 on the Richter scale
But like I said, my understanding is strictly what I've read here and there, so maybe someone will correct me and I'll learn something.
And none of that means a specific anime couldn't go there anyway. |

Apparently, propagating kami is a thing after all, and the resulting gods are considered to be equivalent to the original. Explained by the metaphor of lighting one candle from another, which does not diminish the source flame.
Bunrei is both the process of propagation and the spirit. Once you've got a new bunrei kami, you process it via kanjou to invite it to the new shrine, or wherever it is you wanted to have a god handy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanjō |

That works, however, what I was trying to get to was that the goddess at this shrine going dormant would not have an effect on the goddess as a whole. Just as one candle going out does not change any others.

I like how the episode was set up. We got to see young Minato and how he grew up surrounded by yokai plus even meeting an exorcist. The latter being relevant in the segment showcasing the various onmyoji was well done. I feel bad for Saiga though, his visits to Minato are dangerous and his sisters seems rather lively. Good job to Shiori for making use of the bell sound to get back at her shitty partner. |

Kusunoki really ought to go back home and check on his childhood friend, what with all the corruption and evil spirit activity as such. If he's not careful, she's going to wind up being the final boss.
Not sure what that smirky look (that's not directed at you, Smurky) on the face of those spying exorcists was all about. Are we supposed to gather that they're somehow behind the increased yoki activity as opposed to just profiting from it? I've also got a feeling this "Jade One" thing is going to be a running gag/theme, which I'm okay with. Still enjoying the show. |

I've thought this before, but this episode made me think of Natsame's Book of Friends, a show that is very similar to this anime in tone and subject matter and protagonist and such, at least to me.
Fortunately, that bit with foxy telling Yamagami that he's going to wind up paying for befriending a mortal didn't feel like foreshadowing at all. Course I don't know where they're going to work it in. Four episodes left, and we've got the little girl ghost, the shady exorcists, and Yamagami's status all dangling as undeveloped plot threads. |

I understand the comparison since this week's episode had a lot of guests. We had divine fish, a dragon plus miss fox in both forms. The squirrel bit was interesting in that animals are seemingly smart enough to recognise what can be done with Minato his creations. I do wonder where those shady exorcists will come in though since they seems so pathetic that I struggle to see them as threats. |

You would think so, but a few years back a relative caught his elderly mother on the way to buy gift cards to bail his son out of jail in another state. The son in question was at home playing games on his computer. Someone had called her and claimed to be police in another state. Think how more effective a face to face scammer would be. |

Actually, at least in this case, a face-to-face scammer would be less effective since they're so blatantly gleeful about scamming her. Voice only, you only have to be persuasive because the mark can't see you high-fiving your partner. That's why I said she must be blind. Literally.

The episode has me a bit confused with how seemingly common it is for people to come in contact with gods and yokai. In previous episodes there have been characters who showed that they do not believe in gods/yokai and it has been stated that fewer people can see them when compared to the past. Given that restaurant though it is not exactly something that is being kept a secret so you would expect their existence to be fact to most people (even if they cannot see them). Rip to those scammers maybe? |

Based on the preview, it looks like some kind of rival for Kusonoki is showing up next week. I dunno if it's a minor god or Bizarro Kusonoki. Is the antagonist emerging from the rift? Possessing one of the grifter exorcists in a pretty good example of karma? Anyway, I thought it was a fun episode. I don't think society at large is in the know. This episode was a combination of there being people who still hold on to the old beliefs and the two places Yamagami leading Kusonoki to being a little bit special. Though what the hell was with that basket of oranges at the beginning of the episode? |
