Tenchi The Movie (天地無用 IN LOVE!) ending theme:
Alchemy of love (愛の錬金術 : 林原めぐみ) Megumi Hayashibara: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkAYfxXmKKA English version - Nina Hagen & Rick Jude: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYfZcI0uYTA Only noticed this when re-listening to a version of the OST with the English version of the ED, https://vgmdb.net/album/24850 and checked related media and found the Japanese version of the ED. PS, this franchise seems to have had a lot of English versions of theme songs. |

Thanks, omiya. I did mention this on my first post here. Again,it's a matter of taste which version of "Alchemy of Love" you prefer. The English version or the Japanese one. What amazes me is that Megumi Hayashibara didn't do both versions. I know she speaks English fluently so it would have been interesting to hear her in both languages. Thanks for doing this for us. I appreciate it a lot,sir or ma'am.

I have to admit, this song from "anohana-The Flower We Saw That Day" can really play on the emotions here. Slightly sad but also hopeful at the same time. I never really got into this anime in the first place. I'm amazed that any song from this show got an English version. Thanks for showing us this and I hope you have more coming.

Do I miss English songs used in anime? Well, some part of it for me out of childhood nostalgia. But now these days, people are listening to music not in English (even in the US) like K-pop for example. So maybe that's why English songs in anime is now a rarity these days (although I'm seeing more Korean pop singers being used to sing OP for anime in Japanese which is interesting).
But anyway, I was re-listening to some songs from Pokemon's early English dub era. I was a bit surprised that Pokemon: 2.B.A Master and Pokemon: The First Movie OSTs albums never received an official Japanese release (although it's possible that some music stores in Japan back in the day could've sold imported copies, so we don't know how many Japanese folks and Pokemon fans in Japan may have bought these despite not given official release in Japan). But here's something interesting I found out, anybody remember M2M's Don't Say You Love me (the song that was featured in Pokemon: the 1st movie soundtrack)? The song did get released in Japan (no Japanese-language remake/version was ever recorded) in a form of Maxi-single:
Yep, above there is a scan from the Japanese Maxi-single release of that song. And before you ask, I don't know if the Pokemon version music video was ever shown in Japan, I don't have information if that particular MV ever been shown over there pre-Youtube era. Other then that, I found out that Jason Paige (the original singer of the English Pokemon OP) did a Japanese-language remake/version of the English OP 7 years ago (I don't know how I missed this one). That's kind of cool to see. I like to add that since English-language version of anime and Japanese video game do get Japanese releases like for example Final Fantasy Mystic Quest in Japan is called Final Fantasy USA: Mystic Quest, and Super Mario Bros 2 became Super Mario USA in Japan (yes, I know about Doki Doki Panic). And we got the Ruby-Spear's Mega Man cartoon released in Japan after many years. So...I feel like it should be fair game for Pokemon: 2.B.A Master to be given a special Japanese edition release over there. I mean beside the 13 English songs in the soundtrack from the early English dub, I would like the Special Japanese Edition to have the Japanese-language remake version of the English OP song that Jason Paige sung, and there is one other song I always thought deserve a Japanese-language version remake: My Best Friends (this song). I always thought My Best Friends could work well with Japanese lyrics if re-worked correctly, I don't know which Japanese singer could hold the same candle as Ray Greene but I would love to hear that song sung in Japanese with the meaning kept intact. But I do think the English-language songs from Pokemon's early days does deserve a Japanese release over there the same reason why we would get Japanese manga adaptation of western properties released in the US. If M2M's Don't Say You Love Me can get released in Japan, then why not have all of the English songs used in Pokemon's early English dub era get an official Japanese release, there maybe some older Pokemon fans and younger kids in Japan that might listen to these and could take a liking toward these songs despite being in English and who knows the Japanese language remake of Pokemon English dub OP, and My Best Friends could become a surprise hit in Japan. Also, since M2M reunited last year, and did a concert tour in Asia (minus Japan). I would like to see them record a Japanese-language version remake of Don't Say You Love Me if given an opportunity and I say that because they have sang one of their song, Pretty Boy in Chinese (yep, they made a Chinese-language version of that song for the Taiwanese market). They also did a Spanish-language version of one of their song, Everything you do (Spanish version name: Todo Lo Que Haces). So if they can sing 2 of their songs in Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish, then maybe a Japanese-language version of Don't Say You Love Me from them wouldn't sound that crazy, and I do think the Japanese fanbase do deserve a version of that song. |
