And so the spring chart is out. Instant first impressions is that the moe count is down quite considerably. Oh there's still the token 5-6 down the end of the chart but there's more than enough other stuff to satisfy any fan.

Not sure if this was announced on ANN but Noitamina has been extended to an hour long so we now have two Noitamina shows per season with Youjohan and House of Five Leaves. Which makes me a happy bunny anyway.

(I normally wouldn't post this in forums because of the usual response of 'this season is full of moe crap blah-de-blah but with a chart with a much lower average of moe I'd like to see what the reaction would be)

Senkou no Night Raid and Working!, I had heard the premises for a couple weeks ago and they interest me enough where I'll give them a shot. Being a sap for anything from Marvel Comics, I'm tempted to at least see Madhouse's take on Iron Man as well. RAINBOW, Yojo-han Shinwa Taikei, House of Five Leaves and Hakuouki have interesting premises that I might also give a shot to this spring. Quite a large number of titles for me to take interest in for this season which I haven't had in quite a while.

But where's the CG-animated take on Apocalypse Meow called Cat Shit One? I thought it was aimed for a Spring release. Confused

Whoo-hoo, I thought it was getting time for the Spring 2010 chart to come out. I'm jazzed - looks like quite a few shows I'd be interested in. One of them is definitely Senko no Night Raid although I have to say I'm a little leery of the subject matter. Japan's occupation of China was insanely brutal and I'm not going to be tolerant of any show that purports to show an "heroic" Japanese side to that era.

There are two streaming fansub sites I frequent that, between the two of them, offer most shows currently broadcasting in Japan, so basically I'll try out everything they have to offer (assuming it is not a sequel to a series that I have not seen yet). I've been doing this since Fall of 2009 and have yet to drop a show that I have started watching. It will be interesting to me to see if that trend continues.

Shounen, sports, harem, fanservice, .. There's hardly anything there that isn't aimed only at boys Confused

I wonder how Senkou No Night Raid will be received. The Japanese army's actions in China during that era are a highly inflammatory subject, to put it mildly.

K-On season 2, Geijitsuka Art Design Class, and Black☆Rock Shooter are the only anime that look interesting to me.

Kaichou no Maid-sama is the token shojo of the season and a pretty highly rated manga already. Uragiri boku na etc. is a BL anime. Hetalia is a cult hit and absolutely hilarious to boot. Angel Beats is a Key adaptation, which always have a larger female audience than most people seem to realise.

So yeah, there's still enough girly anime this season, although maybe less so than previous seasons

Oh, I mistook the Uragiri.. one for a shounen anime. I just saw 'adopted', 'independence', and 'older brother' and went Rolling Eyes at the clichés.

...SD Gundam?? I thought that show was rated the worst gundam ever. Why would they make another season?

Anyways, I know absolutely nothing about any of these shows, so I will pretty much just pick a few of them and then wait for ANN's new season episode reviews to see if i want to pick up any others.

Thoughts:

Looks like a pretty strong season. In fact, this could turn out to be a fantastic season. Senko no Night Raid looks interesting. I'm glad to see Samurai seem to be making a resurgence. I'm quite intrigued by House of Five Leaves and Hakuouki looks very cool.

EDIT: Oh, no wonder House of Five Leaves looks so cool. Kazuto Nakazawa is doing the designs. That's fantastic. I absolutely love his work. Everyone watch this. Yes, that means you.

I'm skeptical about Iron Man but hey, it's still a vast improvement over the usual stuff. Hero Man looks be be quite an interesting project.

It's good to see Sunrise putting out a couple of old school mecha OVAs. In fact, the OVA section looks pretty strong. I have no idea what Black Rock Shooter is but the visuals at least look cool.

Best of all, the pandering garbage seems to be rather limited. Only a few ecchi shows by the look of it. Moe is down too and some of the remaining stuff looks like it may actually be on the decent side.

Srry if this old news but... There's a boys love manga and new OVa called SEX PISTOLS?! That's hilarious and wrong on so many levels. Sid Vicious is spitting in his grave.

I heard that has male furries, some plot involving men being evolved from some other animals, and something about men getting a vagina so they can become pregnant.....

Wow, this season looks promising, I'm going to have to really limit myself.

For sure
First, looks like Manglobe may be returning to its former greatness with this new show House of Five Leaves (after its recent blip...)
And while the premise of Heroman sounds generic, it's BONES. So I'm kind of excited because that's what they do best--adapting basic storylines and telling them extremely well.

And then there's Arakawa Under the Bridge which sounds just like my kind of show, plus it's SHAFT, but...what the hell is that promotional picture?

Finally, RAINBOW could be amazing depending on who's producing it. I love intense psychological studies like that.

Cautiously Optimistic About

Iron Man since it's madhouse (too bad their other work this season is directed by Masaaki Yuasa...not a fan) as long as they don't make it, you know, too comic-y. And then Senko no Night Raid.

Also JC staff is solid though they seem to be on a homosexual bent lately, which is fine but not really my thing. That's why I'll see if Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitte Iru is anything other than a bishounen yaoi lovefest (of course maybe that mouthful of a title is an indicator, but all I can understand is "I" and "Name"--and maybe something about the moon?).

Maybe

DEEN seems to be making a comeback recently, or at least trying to, but without knowing more about Giant Killing it's hard to say if I'll watch it. If it's a funny slice-of-life/sports combo then maybe. Then there's the other DEEN show Shinsengumi Kitan which might be a generic video game adaptation, but if it isn't I'll consider it. The character design is certainly appealing.

Checking out Senko no Night Raid, Iron Man, Hero Man, & Hakuouki: Shinsengumi Kitan. This Spring line up feels weaker than usual. I actually think January looked stronger than it coming in.

I've usually seen the Uragiri title translated as Betrayal Knows My Name.

There are about about a half-dozen or so titles that look like they might be interesting to me, though nothing that absolutely screams out "MUST SEE!"

This is one of the titles that looks interesting to me, mainly because of the setting. But I'm not exactly expecting a nuanced portrayal. From what I know of otaku political tendencies, they tend to skew conservative and nationalistic, but I least hope they avoid offensive stereotypes of the Chinese and outright jingoism.
