Girl Friends
Has anyone been following this fairly recent yuri manga that's being serialized in Comic High? Here's the cover for Volume 1: 
At the moment, I heard this series is still running, and I doubt this will be ending soon. Here's the rundown of what happened so far. spoiler[It has slice-of-life elements in it especially with the female protagonists Mari and Akko doing what normal, everyday high school girls do. Later on Mari is starting to develop affectionate feelings towards Akko beyond friendship. At first she thought it was nothing, but it got to a point when Mari unconsciously started to kiss Akko while she was still sleeping! :naughty: The next couple chapters dealt with Mari trying to figure out her own feelings since this can affect their friendship. Mari did admit to Akko that she kissed her while she was sleeping, but Akko said that's it's no biggie since it normal between girl friends. Mari thought it was relief, but then she pondered that her kiss far more than just "friendship". Big obstacles occurred when Akko announced she had a boyfriend which complicated Mari's situation (a.k.a. she became somewhat emo :heh:). And it got even MORE complicated when Mari decided to go out with a guy in hope she can live off a normal life and forget these feelings. Chapter 14 proved that did not work, and it ended with another cliffhanger with Mari pinning Akko down and kisses her. Mari then ran off saying that this love can never be fulfilled. Akko ended up blushing like crazy!] If there's one female yuri manga-ka to watch out for, it's Milk Morinaga. Granted there are some moments where the melodrama gets pretty thick to a point of annoyance, at least we're getting some realistic development of Mari for starting to question her newfound feelings towards her best friend Akko, and spoiler[she finally took action on it!] And thus the plot thickens. Whoah, I found this thread pretty late, ^^;; but I just thought I'd add my two cents now that chapter 16 is translated and 17 is up in raws. I really like basically every yuri story by Milk. Ever since Mari started dating Harada, I've been on the edge of my seat in tooth-grinding agony. (Gah!! >< I want Mari and Akko to get together already!!) But I look forward to how everything is wrapped up. Knowing Morinaga's previous stories from Yuri Hime, I'm sure she'll do a good job.
 Hopefully the story won't end just with Mari and Akko getting together, but we'll see them doing sweet/romantic couple things, like Nana and Hitomi. (Although I've heard that Girl Friends may end with the December issue of Comic High, but I don't trust using people on internet forums as a source.) This is an interesting story though, because it's less "fluffy fairytale" yuri (like what Milk has written in Yuri Hime, which I love ^^), and, so far, more reflective of what most gay teenagers go through in the process of realizing and accepting their sexual orientation. But yes, I can't wait to see how this ends!!

I read some of this manga. Its very cute. It has the potential to be a nice long running series. Or at least longer then 3 or 4 volumes please. Yuri and yaoi are usually so short. I have seen some longer running yaoi series but almost never yuri. Hopefully this has a decent length.
My only complaint of this series is that it moves kind of slowly but maybe I feel that way because I read too much yaoi. (things usually move alot quicker there lol: maybe too quick) Anyway its worth the read. Very cute and I love the art. |

Whoa, responses! And I thought this will end up into obscurity! At least more ANN users will be able to recognize this more.
I haven't heard anything about that either so wait until the December issue for any official announcements. And besides, it's FAR too early to end it right now; there are too many plot threads dangling that needs to be tied up.
No doubt lesbian teens go through this, but of course this manga is presented in a somewhat soap-opera type fashion. It would be interesting about their opinions of this.
Oh I hope it goes longer as well. Morinaga can definitely squeeze in one or two more volumes just dealing with Akko's and Mari's newfound relationship (if it ever happens which I hope it does soon). As for the pacing, hahaha welcome to initial growth of yuri popularity of Japan (I have more to say, but I'll wait until I get some sleep). |

Morinaga is awesome
It's good to see some actual yuri out there. The series seems slow but I think that's just because of the wait for the releases.

You could start suggesting this to the guys in Seven Seas. Their Strawberry line definitely needs more yuri titles. |

Oh man, did anyone get a chance to read Chapter 21!
spoiler[THEY DID IT!!! OH SHIT, Akko finally kissed Mari!!!
And this was more of a "shut up and kiss me" style Akko pulled when Mari started babbling her apology. ] And since manga is still continuing with a new chapter around next month hopefully we could get plot lines like spoiler[having their peers accepting that they're a couple and/or have lots of cute, yuri romantic moments.] |

This title has more potential attracting curious readers considering this one of the rare yuri title that actually builds up the an actual lesbian relationship between school girls without all the BS. There are also slice-of-life moments of girly girls doing really girly girl things like dealing with clothes, make-up, and shopping (yes, it sometimes get that stereotypically girly ).

I came across this over on T.V. Tropes and it sounds intresting form the charcterization of the main charcters what with Mari being the shrinking violet Akko being a Genki Girl. Here's hopeing Seven Seas linscines it becuese heaven knows the U.S. needs some more Yuri manga.
