As most of you know Cowboy Bebop is currently being aired on CN/AS. My question is this, I have not yet seen the entire series all the way. Is the show edited much for TV, like many shows are on CN? It just that I know that the new Cowboy Bebop remaster DVDs are going to be released soon, so I guess I am asking, should I wait? Thanks

If you go into the columns section of this site, there's a section called the Edit List. Since that's something you probably shouldn't look at if you haven't seen the series in one form or another once, I'll say that the edits mainly involve toning some language and apparently alot of volume of blood down and covering up some nudity (believe it or not, there's one scene that was cropped where nudity is actually important to the plot, but I certainly understood what was going on, so you should be alright
Hope that helps. |

Well, if you are talking about the current run on [Adult Swim] then the series and the episodes with in aren't "edited" that much. They have aired and are airing all 26 episodes with very minor edits, that I've seen so far. In the current version they are running there have some minor language edits, some brief nudity scenes cut out of a few particular episodes, and some minor "on-screen blood" reductions, but that's it. Actually, the "edits" are very minor that it don't really de-rails from the series' overall plot or spoil your enjoyment much. Click here to see Kyle Pope's "Edit List" for details on the edits done. [AS] really does a good job in airing its anime and that section of CN have less strict standards compare to Toonami or the rest of CN. Mostly because of the late hours that [AS] occupies on that network, past 11:00pm EST. The series itself actually have been run through in its entirety over a dozen times now on that network dating back to 2001 when Cartoon Network got that anime series as a head liner to their then new [Adult Swim] "Action Block". Ever since then, [AS] has pretty much been known for running the entire series on a regular basis now. I would definitely recommend seeing it on [AS] or TV first since it won't cost you as much as compared to buying the DVDs. Not that it isn't a worth while investment to get the DVDs or anything, but it's sometime good to "compare before you buy".
Which is funny, since I've actually first saw Cowboy Bebop on [Adult Swim] after a friend recommend me to watch the series since it was pretty much "one of the most talked about anime series" back then. I still watch a few episodes here and there on occasions when they air it, but mostly I tune in to [AS] for their new shows (anime and non-anime a like) and new episodes of shows they have already. |

This show is great and all and my second favorite anime series but man they play it to death. It has to have aired like a hundred times over, can't they find something else to fill a timeslot? Maybe something like Blue Gender or Witch Hunter Robin which only aired once or twice.

Bebop is the best show they have, and it still pulls in decent ratings even though it has aired somewhere around seven billion times.
I'd love it if they replaced it with something else, though...just not Blue Gender. They really took a hacksaw to it with the edits. |

It was actually FUNimation that edited Blue Gender, since they had sent Cartoon Network an earlier (nearly uncut) version that had to be sent back to them because it wasn't passable for TV. FUNimation then over-edited it to avoid having to repeat the process again (or so the story goes). |

The main reason it's been played so much is because it was one of their first shows and because they didn't have a lot of shows to play then, so they kept playing this. I don't think they've played it for a while, though. |

I'll never forget my reaction to BG on [as] back in 2002. I had seen the first six eps. uncut on VHS and was happy it was on TV. Imagine my suprise when it first aired; "I was like "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?" So no, as much as I like it it has to go the way of Yu Yu Hakuso and Rurouni Kenshin - air on [as] re-edited. ESPECIALLY in Blue Gender's case. Anyway the series isn't terribly edited at all. |

Last month that was true, JETBLACK87. A couple of weeks ago, though, Cowboy Bebop returned to Adult Swim at the 1:30am ET/PT time slot. |

What I'm interested in is how Williams Street would edit "Cowboy Bebop" today. Adult Swim's editing standards have obviously loosened up over the years, and stuff they removed in "Cowboy Bebop" back them fly by without trouble in shows like "Samurai Champloo" and the like today. Sure, it costs money to re-edit stuff, but hey, it would be a nice way to send off the series if/when/before the broadcast rights expire.

Sorry for the confusion. That's what I meant. This is the first time in a while. |

The reason why they air Cowboy bebop so much is because it is the grandad of Adult Swim action and all anime that followed. It was the very first anime to air back when adult swim was nothing but Space Ghost, Aqua Teen, and the Brack Show. I love Cowboy Bebop. i personally don't care how long they keep it on the air. Whenever they take Bebop off the air, I feel like Adult Swim is missing something.

Caught Waltz for Venus the other night, must say, [adult swim] does a great job with anime.
I didn't notice any cuts and I love how they preserve the intro and only one commercial break (with bumps and all). |
