Shinryaku! Ika Musume (TV)

I am quite surprised no one has made one yet and it has already been episode 3. Well story is a squid girl (part squid part girl) comes from the ocean to invade the land for the misstreatment of the ocean, and following anime/manga tradition she is of course cute and naive, yet is still determined to invade. She tries to get a strong hold in a beach side resteraunt that is run by two young girls, despite her fearsome strength things do not go well and that is where the laughs start. She finds herself taken not seriously in the least and ends up being swept along with everything, she can't even get a get a good minion.

Episode 2 starts with her almost doing the impossible, that is she amost spoiler[drowned, only to realise later that she remembered she could breath under water.] But we are introduced to the 5th character, a fellow guardian of the sea, though there is a little bit of discrepancy over who is being more successfull, also gives some family friendly manliness. And we also have the 6th character she learns she doesn't want to be treated like a spoiler[dog] and she gets an admirer, although it is not entirely healthy.

Episode 3 seemed to have the theme of fear, firstly how she handles a chalenge of fear, the results are pretty ironic, she is quite the skeptic. Ika Musume then meets her naturel enemies, the mighty spoiler[inflatable animal], and exactly how good a swimmer is she. Pluss another character, think the last character from episode 2 but the opposite, and Ika Musume loves it.

I am having some great laughs with this, it is funny but also very appropriate for different ages, who knew tenticles in anime could stay child safe. Episode 3 especially had two big laughs for me by useing the formulae by kind of repeating a couple of simular scenes and then chucking something from left field, I am still giggling about the banana and muscular male couple. If you have not watched it yet, watch it now!

I don't know how other shows this season will turn out, but so far this one beats everything in the level of pure enjoyment. It's like Yotsubato the anime, with some other elements. The only trouble is I pause too often to screencap.
It might be childish, but it definitely channels Azumanga/Yotsuba. Squidifiyingly cute, highly recommended to anyone who wants a dose of positive emotions.

Episode 3 isn't available on Crunchyroll for another two and a half hours. For members. I will watch it then, though.

As for why there hasn't been a thread for it sooner, well, there's not loads to talk about. The environmental message is presented as part of the set up, and repeatedly referred to as Squid Girl's motivation, but there's not a lot of focus on it, really. As for the rest of the show, it's quick comedy sketches, and either people think they're funny, or they don't. There's not a whole lot of discussion value in, say, Squid Girl's sudden paranoia that for her birthday party spoiler[she thinks the other characters are going to kill and eat her.] Sure, P&SwG has a decent thread going, but that's because of the hype and vulgarity, neither of which Squid Girl has.

Well there has been a lot of comparisons of Ika Mutsume to Index from To Aru Majutsu no Index, there has been quite a lot of mixing the two into the other's setting. Probably because they are both petite girls with blueish/greyish hair and white outfits, but they do share simular personalities, well Index fails as a nun and Ila Mutsume fails as an invader.

I guess often the show I get into most of each season is the pure comedy one, and this delivering it in spades. You are possibly right about your comparison of Yotsuba Mister V, I guess also the whole unfamiliarity to the world and such is also a favourite, great now you have me checking my Yotsuba manga.

I know it's stupid but I end up feeling pity for Ika Musume all the time. She hasn't tried to communicate at all why she is up on the surface as opposed to continuing to live in the sea, and she sort of became a prisoner in that beach house. The show is funny and easy to watch but at times I feel a little uncomfortable with it. Isn't that weird?

Oh, all the characters besides the two sisters are quite funny (mainly lifesaver and squid girl).
Unless I'm forgetting something this seems to be the best comedy so far (dropped Panty [...] after getting pissed off rather quickly, and hmm, the rest are hardly dedicated mainly to comedy).
Anyway, my favorite scene so far was the birthday cake. I saw that coming, but perhaps because of that I laughed out loud as soon as it happened (you see my hair's color was originally blond)!
I hope they keep using that ink joke. Oh, why is Trouble's ending song this addicting.

Definitely a great pure comedy show. If all you want is some laughs, definitely give this one a shot!

I especially liked the part with the orcas in episode 3, then when they expanded on it with the "unknown yellow fish" Laughing

glad to know im not the only watching it, I find this series pretty hiliarious after only 2 eps, and how she is with everyone is funny, I loved how in episode 2 she was drowning and realized she cant drown but lived with humans for so long she was one of them made me crack up since it was only an episode she has lived with them. It's not the best of this season but still pretty enjoyable

Five episodes in, and I'm convinced; I'll be following this religiously from now on! Cool

Now for episode 5:

1st part
- New character is introduced who's American named Cyndi Campbell who's thinks Squid Girl is an alien.....which even boggle more minds! Cyndi also has brainwashing powers! Go, America! Laughing

2nd part
- Squid Girl goes to school.....who thinks it's a gigantic military facility.

3rd part - dialogue-less segment.
- OH GOD, CHIBI SQUID GIRL!!! Anime hyper
- And the ending.....WHY?!!! Shocked Crying or Very sad
- And in the end, spoiler[ it's all a dream; Sanae's dream!] Wait, what?

So far, this is pure comedic entertainment which gets surprisingly consistently fresh in almost every segment. I can't really put my finger on it on how the staff were able to pull it off, but I hope this keeps up for the rest of the series.

And with this series starting to become one of the more surprise hits, someone had to daily dose it!

The first two segments were great, though the last kind of fell flat for me. The alien stuff was good, I liked how she had some form of logic and then question herself.

And she almost actually invaded something, at first her going to school reminded me of Kure-nai when Murasaki did a simular thing. Can't get enough of her trying rule over people, it is very funny.

How big of a baby must I be? The end of the third part in eppie 5 had me choked up even though I knew it had to be a spoiler[dream sequence]. I think anime has some kind of weird power over me. They get me with the poignant stuff almost every time.

I liked the atmosphere of the first episode. Brought me back to several tropical anime titles. Give me a minute and I'll be up to date.

well well well it took some really persistent "fanboying" on twitter to get me to watch this and i have to admit its actually pretty good. I have only seen the first episode and it had me laughing in no time.

I like how she always adds "deke sho" at the end of her sentences so cute Embarassed

So far it looks like I will probably enjoy this just for laughs. I hope it has a fairly good linear story to it though, you know atleast leave me in suspence once in a while.

oreimo is still my favourite for the season but ill give this show a few more episodes and I might change my mind.

Ika has a talent other then the obvious tenticle/water related things spoiler[being that she is very good at maths.] I actually don't know if I was hapilly surprised over it, or it was so unexpected that I learnt to expect the unexpected and expected it in this episode Confused . End part of the joke of it was predictable, but funny none the leas. It was good seeing Eiko's pride crumble, have no idea why she would want to compare herself to Ika though.

Anyway you know it it is bad when Ika is laughing at you, like on the hero show. Felt like a bit of reverse as spoiler[usually when such a character as her would interrupt something like that they don't understand that it is fake, but Ika insulted how bad it was and still created a big scene.] I was really laughing at what Ika did to the audience, those poor actors.

Well there is one big chain of characters likeing other, Well I guess it might be completed if you added Eiko and the dog. Ika's spoiler[relationship with Nagisa puts a smile on me, she really likes her and thus tries to scare her and only wants to be feared or hated back. Plus it is fun seeing Ika go flying for antics, over the top pushing ftw.]

p.s. I wish there was an Ika Masume emoticon.

My god. The episode was pretty nice as usual, but the last part - damn. This was a really nice subversion of the usual relationship misunderstandings in anime. Quite clever.
