I don't really think there's anything he can do to redeem that ending...

Oreimo is one of those series that can never really be erased from my mind for various reasons. Its still something I go back to on Cruncyroll from time to time. So, I guess I can say I'm somewhat curious as to what happens in this "after story."

That reminds me though, didn't ANN interview the creator? What ever happened to that?

Kirino looks so cute on the cover, I wish her personality wasn't the worst of the decade.

Well, there were nothing he could do about the ending because the publisher didn't let him do the ending that he have in mind.

But i want to see what is this short story and if this story is about what happened after the ending events.

Spoiler: Ayase puts everyone in a maid outfit and whips them. Including Kyosuke.

Kirino throws away her whole collection after she realizes that she was just externalizing her desire for her brother to stop ignoring her. She also stops running because she realizes that she sucks. She was last seen hanging around her father after deciding that she wants to be a police detective.

Kuroneko gets pregnant. Absolutely nobody is surprised.

Kanako gets disillusioned with being an idol, quits, and runs off to a farming school.

edit: wow i effed up the bbcode

Well that aside (and understanding that there are a few different reasons that people don't like the ending, some of which won't change either way), it is also the case where the anime -- which most people are judging -- was so compressed/simplified that it lacks some of the subtlety/symbolism of the novel (and the translations that exist are also rather poor due to being double-translated from Chinese). I took part in many discussion about the novel/anime ending back in the day, and at least some of the frustration is due to the anime's extremely cursory view of the ending (and a directorial decision that the novel author didn't agree with).

But anyway, as a follow-up to the novel, I'm curious what'll be in there, but I'm not expecting it'll clear up some of the issues most wish to be straightened out, as some of the ambiguous points were indeed that way for "reasons".

If it's something where he ends with someone else, I'm all for it. Especially sincespoiler[Kirino was only supposed to be secretly dating him until the end of high school.]

If that happens, it's probably due to the fans giving such negative feedback for that ending.

spoiler[It's virtually guaranteed that this won't happen due to the author's statements about what the scenes in the epilogue symbolise in terms of Kyousuke's kiss and the return of life counselling. And besides that, he couldn't have exactly rejected any of the other girls any more clearly than he did; that was entirely the point of the final volume: to eliminate all other exit strategies to make his point clear.]

I don't think that's what going to happen because if that the case will further distance from the true ending Tsukasa Fushimi wanted in the first place.

The negative feedback was mostly in the West.
In Japan there was not many criticism of what girl Kyosuke ended with.

Wait, do we really need to spoiler things?

-sigh- Okay, spoilering.

I did find it odd, that, if Kyosuke spoiler[was only going to be pretending to date Kirino until graduation], why he didn't just spoiler[tell whichever girl what was going on and ask her to wait a little bit longer].

There were only two rational reasons why he would do this. The non-rational reason is that he's a dumbass. (This should never be discounted, people in real life have failings and I respect writers that will give their characters failings). Rational reason #1 is that spoiler[he knew he would be going away and would be away from EVERYBODY]. Kyosuke was, at his core, a kind person and wouldn't string anyone along. Rational reason #2 is that spoiler[he simply would rather have Kirino and "until graduation" did not necessarily mean "and then it's all over", it just meant that he was going away] which also, oddly enough, meshes with rational reason #1.

So, good job Kirino. You successfully manipulated the hell out of your brother.

edit - and thanks to this post, now I have "White Wedding" stuck in my head.

Hey little sister, what have you done?

Then why didn't he just write a better ending? Him having to write the one he didn't have in mind doesn't mean it had to be terrible.

I actually didn't mind the ending..[spoiler] I was suprised though When him and Kuroneko didn't hook back up though but it didn't bother me too much. spoiler[ I also think it wouldve been fucked up if he ended up with his sister thankfully that didn't happen. So what was everyones beef with the ending then?]
