Not that we should always look a gift horse in the mouth, but is a standard McDonald's hamburger not gone in five bites or so? The sandwich would need wingmen, as it were, to register as a food item at all.

Watamote made a single hamburger look quite savory.
I believe the idea is people would buy a drink and/or side to go with it.

That's how they get you. You come in for your free burger and end up buying some fries and maybe a second burger too. And so McDonald's end up selling a lot of extra food.
