So that's 47 billion yen for the top 10 domestic films and 52 billion for the top 10 foreign ones. By comparison, there were three individual movies that made more than either of those figures in America -- Black Panther, Infinity War, and Incredibles 2. Even adjusting for population size, the American gross for Black Panther exceeded Japan's grosses for its top four movies combined.
It's always a bit of a shock to me, realizing just how much bigger movies are here in the States than most other countries. (Does anyone happen to know why ticket prices are like 50% higher in Japan?) |
