why would some folks getting a little bent out of shape over a blood drive matter?

I mean, a second season was announced last fall so obviously it was going to air fairly soon.

Uzaki is pretty popular. The real question though is about source material. The mangaka isn't exactly pumping out chapters. Also it'll be a shame if this gets a second season but Nagatoro doesn't. I like both of them but Nagatoro was both better produced as an anime and has much better character development in the source material.

? Do you mean western controversy? Why would that stop it from getting a second season?

That visual definitely sums up the show well...along with the cat and...Uzaki's mom with huge bangs?

In fairness the controversy originated in Japan when the character was used for a blood drive and was legitimate. It shouldn't be confused with westerners who contrived a social media controversy around a TV show that they hadn't seen based on a manga they hadn't read. It's getting a second season is no surprise: the manga is somewhat popular in Asia and in the west controversy resulted in lots of people checking it out that would not have otherwise. Add to that the show having the cheapest production budget imaginable - including a filler episode that was obviously a product placement for a tourist trap (granted it was more entertaining than a "recap episode" would have been) - turning a profit wouldn't have been that hard.

Though everything that you stated is true, Nagatoro ended with Nagatoro and (the nameless) Sempai becoming an official couple which negates the main hook of

. While the manga is still ongoing I don't know if its content would interest viewers over a 12 episode cour. Could justify a few OVAs maybe.
But for a second season of Uzaki Chan, it will have a bigger than the previous bare-bones budget meaning better animation quality, more locations (instead of spending 80% of the show at the MC's apartment or job) and ESPECIALLY more characters. The last episode for example introduced Uzaki's siblings. The manga also has Shinichi's family, so season 2 could get a lot of mileage merely from family interactions and dynamics stuff (including a hilarious development with Shinichi's family that I will not spoil). Also, getting to see more of the "moralistic judgmental cat" - the best such character since the random black cat that used to pop up in Trigun - is more than enough justification to check out the second season for me![/quote]

After so much time had gone by without hearing any news for season 2 I'm not surprised to learn that it will air next year rather than this year. Also announcing this on Uzaki chan's birthday is a nice touch too.

That’s Uzaki’s younger sister, not her mother.

Controversy? Oh you mean the controversy that only the Westerners care about?
What I always find funny is how people tend to forget what ever drama or controversy that people in the west or outside of Japan cause....Japan don't care! They really they don't.
In terms sales, views or general opinions, they really only care about the people of Japan and mostly only that, no matter how badly something might be received or sold in other countries, as long as that said product becomes huge or popular in Japan, then its getting a lot attention. Take Jump Force for example, a lot of westerners can say how bad that game is and terrible it sold at the time of release, for Japan, it was on the top ten list of most games sold that time of the year, its why they kept supporting and giving it a lot of DLC and attention.

Yeah a lot of people don't quite seem to understand that when it comes to stuff like this and many other things Japan only cares about Japan. Works for me though since I live here lol.
