I feel like if the fact that everything always goes smoothly for the MC bothers you then you'll probably have to avoid most Isekai stories because almost all of them do this.

Unlike your average Isekai power fantasy, this thing, at least on the surface, tries to do something bigger than just that. It has political intrigue, conspiracies, social issues and whatnot. But all those "grander" story elements are diminished greatly when Souma can just solve problems easily. It goes through some effort by setting up bigger stories, but then doesn't bother to follow through with any of it and instead opts to just have Souma go "Just do this thing lul".
It's what makes it disappointing. It might seem more competent on the surface but under the surface it's same old lazy isekai writing but without the lighthearted fun that I'd rather get from a dumb Isekai power fantasy. I'd rather have The 8th Son? Are You Kidding Me? than this. At least that thing knows (more or less) that it's a dumb power fantasy.

That is kind of what turned me off the anime (even as someone who doesn't mind OP MC's) where Souma always seems smarter or in the right more than most of the other characters and things always turn out his way or from his worldview (and he won't shut up about Machiavelli).

Souma: Ah, I see. Well, simply do [this thing].
Person B: Astounding, he solved the problem!
Person A: My lord, you are so wise. Why did we never think of that? |
This is a lot of narou-kei in a nutshell. I guess the point is that it's comforting for readers to not have to worry about anything ever troubling the protagonist.
