I hope it's a sequel. I know that the cast has been teasing ideas for spin-offs but a direct sequel is the more logical choice.

Looking forward to it! I hope it can really build on what the first movie did well!

I'm on the fence in regards to Illumination as a company, but I hope Nintendo's continuing ticket sales push us closer to a situation where we see less Monster Hunter-style film adaptations and more "common-sense" game adaptations like the second Sonic film and the Mario movie. I'm just slightly concerned because with the success of the film, I can see Nintendo shifting some of its games around to ride the film's momentum and some of their picks are.... fine? I just would rather more Metroid or the original Gameboy Donkey Kong remastered than Mario v DK minis.
