For those of you that aren't American comic book/graphic novel readers. A long time ago, American comic books used to have a letter to the editor column section. They're usually called comic book letter column, and they were a thing a long time ago. If you don't know what they looked like, I'll give you some examples:
The New Teen Titans comic book letter to the editor Spider-man's letter to editor column Superman's Metropolis Mailbag DC's Sugar & Spike letter to the editor column Justice League's Mail Room column I think some of you that are Marvel fans may have heard of the Bullpen Bulletins. So here's my question for anyone that have read or access to manga magazines in Japan: Do manga magazines have their own version (or equivalent) of letters to the editor/comic book letter column on there? Did Shonen Jump/Young Jump, Shonen Magazine, & Shonen Sunday ever had something like this (or once had this)? Do manga magazine readers in Japan actually send letters to the editor and those letters get published on the magazine like the same way we do it in the US for comic books a long time ago? The reason I asked because I'm curious if Japanese readers that read manga magazine ever send letters to editors that either praise or criticize certain manga titles that were included/published in manga magazine and the editor would published these fans letters to the editor on there. I like to know out of curiosity. |

Interesting question. I don't know the answer though.
See if your local comic book store has NewType magazine or the Megami magazine. These magazines are big in size and they do have a lot of text pages on 'not so' premium paper. The good paper is used for the color sections. |

Well how can I spot them if they're written in Japanese? Also, I'm talking about manga magazines like Shonen Jump, Shonen Sunday, etc... in Japan. I'm not sure if Newtype Magazine USA version can count. I'm talking about a Japanese-language written fan letter from fans to the editor, and the editor or the editor in chief (or whoever does the publishing) put and publish the fan letter on the manga magazine in Japan. If we have something like that in the US for US comic book, then I want to know if Japan have similar practice like this. |

Wasn't talking about the US version. Newtype (Japan version) and Megami (Japan version) have been available via Diamond Comics distribution for sometime now. Don't know about now, since Diamond is having issues.
My comic book store in Virginia Beach is Trilogy. It has a large section of manga, magazines, figurines, and other anime/manga related material. They have older issues of those magazines. So if you have an anime friendly comic book, they might have older issues. I have some Japanese manga at home. I'll take a look later and see if I see anything like a letter's page. |
