It's interesting that it's been so popular since it's only part of a series of stories and relies somewhat on prior familiarity with the characters.

Also, when you factor in that Infinity Castle cost between 1/10th and 1/20th of what Superman did....

In other words, Superman *may* be very marginally profitable, while DS:IC is stupendously profitable.

(The Hollywood Reporter and Box Office Mojo list the film's worldwide box office total at "US$757.6 million" as of Sunday. However, the discrepancy between their total and Deadline and The Numbers' total is US$124.6 million, which is exactly the U.S. box office total that all four services list.)

Because I had only checked out Box Office Mojo, I thought it was weird that this movie's worldwide box office made such a leap this weekend. It looks like they might have accidentally counted the US box office twice indeed. US$ 663 million makes more sense, considering how it had been progressing, unless the movie premiered all of a sudden in a bunch of other markets.

Edit: Box Office Mojo has now fixed the worldwide box office numbers. They must have originally mistaken the worldwide total for the international (as in every country outside of the US) one, which led into the US numbers being counted twice.

To be fair I don't think Superman's done particularly well at the box office in the past, nor has Fantastic Four so those were kind of doomed to not be huge hits. The highest grossing one is still the Snyder film he had to title share with Batman. If there was a live-action Spider-Man film this year it probably would have grossed more Still, I remember when Kimetsu no Yaiba was being reported it sold more than every other superhero comic book in America years ago, and now it's doing the same to superhero movies this year so it's still a fun tidbit.

Tokimeki: The first Chris Reeve Superman and Man of Steel did alright. The former paved the way for Spidey movies since 2002. As for how Brand New Day will do, that's a real test, post-superhero fatigue. The Punisher has never been in a big hit or tentpole before, and an accident on set is never good news. Plus, Brave New World had a Hulk, too, and it bombed. Really, it and Doomsday are last-ditch efforts by Disney, Sony, and Marvel to save their brand. Spider-Verse 3 is the only guaranteed hit from Spidey right now, and that might say more about animation overall versus live-action. As for Yaiba, it's a beast which could end up being the anime Spider-Verse, if done right. But since this kind of thing has never happened before, and most anime sequels suffered from diminishing returns here [*cough* Pokemon and YugiOh *cough*], Sony and Aniplex have to play it smart with the Infinity Castle's follow-ups, and not wait too long to strike while the iron is hot. Plus, let's hope the Demon Slayer guy doesn't do a mediocre followup like Buso Renkin, too. Also, let's hope the demand is still there for manga in general that far down the road with everyone trying to cash in right now.

what's more impressive is that the other movies worldwide grossing includes the chinese market, which is huge, and this move topped them without even being played in china.
if it gets a release in china it could reach 1 billion.
