This is a result of the tariffs and we've already seen Nintendo raise accessory prices across the board and it's probably safe to assume that Sony will increase their prices at some point as well.
I can't imagine any company would be okay with selling at a loss. Accessories are where they make their money back from consoles anyway.

Even though Microsoft is an American company, most Xbox components are made in China. So this is a good example of how tariffs just end up punishing American companies (and consumers.)

I think I'm good with what I have. I'm not getting any younger, and I have enough of a backlog of things already - the direction games are going, I'd rather spend 20+ hours on a classic than the MTX-filled always-online garbage that keeps getting churned out. For everything else, I can just catch new stuff on YouTube.
Mario Kart 8 is already doing a bunch of stuff to flatten the skill ceiling, and with 9 behaving like a battle royale in certain aspects, I'm just gonna stick to my little Super Circuit save and catch any future free updates of Robotnik's Ring Racers and be happy with it. I'm sure people are going to buy stuff at the higher prices, but we seriously need a massive philosophical shift in how we think about consuming hobby goods, especially when it comes to tech.

Yeesh, all corners are getting squeezed. Reality of the matter is that the Switch 2 prices weren't opening the door, they were a canary in the mine for electronics pricing due to the current market. Seriously, even if tariffs are pulled back we aren't going to see prices go down because there is too much market uncertainty.

Heard about this yesterday, and yeah, this is very unfortunate. Anyway, most of Microsoft IP's are already on PS4/PS5 and Switch (for some of them), so if you already have a PS5 or Switch, then you don't need an Xbox at this point.

It's a good thing I got my Series X as a gift a few months ago. Games old and new should be easier pickings.

I would say it’s still handy for backwards compatible games that aren’t available on PlayStation (like sonic adventures 1 and 2), game pass is also pretty good if you’re into indie games.

Sony already raised prices in some territories, but I bet they won't be far behind MS for making them more global unfortunately.

$80 for a new title? I wish. We've been paying the equivalent of $90 - $100 for almost 2 years already.

Companies were raising rices before the tariffs. This would still happen without the tariffs, all that has changed is that they have a new excuse.
