Hmm, I’ve been watching anime since the 90s, and I’m not sure I agree.

What I like to see continuing are composers/lyricists/performers who are really invested in the franchise when they write and perform OP/ED/INS (and character) songs for an anime.
I'm not sure if songs from anime by artists who primarily do songs for anime/games ever get elevated attention outside of anime/game music fans because the songs are so good.

What? Anisongs have been heavy on generic pop sounds since at least the '80s. And I've heard no shortage of creative approaches to anisongs in recent years, including a greater willingness to use rap or hard rock/metal influences.
As for the songs actually nominated, I'd love to see "Idol" do a sweep of its nominations. It's the biggest of all the nominees in terms of popularity, is widely-recognized for its technical complexity, and carries the strongest meaning and potential emotional impact. It wasn't the biggest song in the world at one point without reason.
