OK, so IDW is completely all in on the Webtoon app. Just to remind everybody, if you have a Hoopla account (and Hoopla does have smartphone apps) assuming you have a library card, and your local libraries network is part of Hoopla, you can read your manga, graphic novels even including titles from IDW on there.

I guess that's one way to get more of an audience.

IDW has lost millions the last two years. This is showing nothing is off the table to keep the company going.

Yeah, I've been looking around and this is really unfortunate for them. My question is: Why haven't they joined on the manga licensing and publishing game (a.k.a open up a manga publishing studio/division) since other comic/graphic novel publishers like Titan Comic, and Alien Book are jumping into the game? I mean IDW did publish one manga back in 2007, and they never did it since then. I mean manga can make more money for IDW then publishing comic book/graphic novels based on licensed properties like Godzilla, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. If IDW can open up a manga publishing division and license a well-known but not license by other big company titles and probably indie manga titles, that might help them I don't know by how much but it's been widely acknowledged that manga outsell comic/graphic novels in the US. So it would make sense for a publisher like IDW to open up a manga publishing division. |
