My impression was the live-action version isn't half-bad so I might check this out!

The last episode of the series and the movie go beyond what's been animated so far, so be forewarned about that. Some events also get greatly condensed or redesigned. (The stage play in s2 of the anime is a TV series in LA form, for instance.) I thought the TV series was a respectable effort (though I prefer the animated version), but I'm waffling over whether or not to go ahead with the movie.

Yeah, I am surprised that they are still going on with this despite everyone knowing how it ends.

I watched the movie when it was released in cinemas here and I really loved it, though I found it interesting that they put the prologue of the series as the first half of the movie after skipping it in the TV series. Whilst it did serve to add some emotional weight to the film, allow for some more natural reveals and recontextualise how we view the prologue (it was especially fitting given the in-film documentary), I also thought that without it they could have adapted more of the skipped content from later in the series.
