Blue Protocol was originally a Bandai Namco game. The western release of Blue Protocol was being handled by Amazon and thus a ton of changes were being made to the game both for censorship reasons. Star Resonance is a remake that basically uses all the same assets and is being done by a Chinese company now and doesn't have any of the censorship going off the beta. The "loli" body type Amazon wanted to remove is back in, for example, even in the English version.

It was cancelled because the game didn't garner much interest in Japan. It was very middling and had various issues like frequent loading zones and a poor endgame loop. The devs also seemed to struggle with making content players cared about. The censorship issue was pretty much a US thing only.

Good news is Star Resonance kept only the art assets and basically remade the game completely so maybe it will be good this time?
