I'm confused, it's a game based on a game that was cancelled pretty swiftly?

Blue Protocol was originally a Bandai Namco game. The western release of Blue Protocol was being handled by Amazon and thus a ton of changes were being made to the game both for censorship reasons. These changes ended up being retroactively added to the Japanese version to make both versions the same. The changes were not well received in either country but especially in Japan who had their game changed post release. The western version was cancelled entirely and the game ended service in Japan

Star Resonance is a remake that basically uses all the same assets and is being done by a Chinese company now and doesn't have any of the censorship going off the beta. The "loli" body type Amazon wanted to remove is back in, for example, even in the English version.

It was cancelled because the game didn't garner much interest in Japan. It was very middling and had various issues like frequent loading zones and a poor endgame loop. The devs also seemed to struggle with making content players cared about. The censorship issue was pretty much a US thing only.

Good news is Star Resonance kept only the art assets and basically remade the game completely so maybe it will be good this time?

Thanks for explaining! I hope it works out this time then!
I was interested in the original game until I found out it would only be playable via amazon, and then the removal of the loli body type (which is probably what I would have liked to play as) made me loose all interest.
Weird that they choose to remove that specifically since genshin also has a body type literally called loli in the files, and final fantasy has lalafells and those games are doing fine without censoring
