That's pretty sad to hear although the west/US has never received an official translated release of this particular Super Mario manga, any death of a mangaka who was involved with Super Mario franchise has a special place within the international fandom.
I wonder if Viz Media could get the license to the Super Mario manga done by the late mangaka, that would really be a big honor to have this released in the US. |

Looking at some of the manga art via Google Image Search, Kazuki Motoyama had his own distinctive style in which he drew Mario, giving him sort of a "gag manga" look, which I can respect from an artistic standpoint but it's a very "non-standard" design compared to how Mario looks in modern official media and, as such, I doubt any of the Super Mario manga from this artist would be made available by Nintendo to license to Viz even if they wanted to publish it because it doesn't fit in with their current "Brand Image" of Mario.. |
