With the recent delay of the brand-new Madoka Magica movie, I am afraid that it will became ''Mega Man Legends 3'' of the Japanese animation industry. Something's wrong. I was hoping the film will come out this February. Why isn't the case anymore?
In Japan, the triple dominance of Doraemon, Anpanman and anything for children is important to the Japanese audience instead of the fandom's love for everything Madoka Magica. Also, the local animation industry is in the same rough patch as the American one. Many of the recent upcoming anime films tend to be canceled due to various/production circumstances. In the US, for example, a lot of the upcoming Cartoon Network/WB Animation stuff are in the frozen state because of a crisis caused by the WBD merger. We need to stop the anime film crisis. We need to save ''Walpurgisnacht. Rising'' before it becomes ''Mega Man Legends 3'' of the Japanese animation industry.
It seems very likely that the thirteen years of development weren't enough. In fact, no one is interested in the Madoka Magica franchise anymore. Despite its popularity, it was destined for the Madoka Magica saga to be the short-lived one. ''Rebellion'' (third movie) ended with a blatant cliffhanger, much like ''Mega Man Legends 2''. If we don't save ''Walpurgisnacht: Rising'' and the Madoka Magica saga as a whole, what's the next Evangelion (a franchise with a troubled production) will eventually became the next Mega Man Legends (an orphaned series with an unfinished story). What do you think?
