And still no compelling case to buy one.

as much as i like using my ps5, i just don't really have the time to...
it's a good console, but still. alan wake ii and ryza dx are my go-tos.

nowadays, i'd just get a pc or a steam deck. in fact, since most of the games i play are visual novels...yeah...

Might be a little tough to get a pc at the moment, some of the manufacturers shifted their attention to AI and that's causing hardware prices to rise drastically (RAM, GPUs, SSDs, you name it). You might get lucky with a Steam Deck, but trying to upgrade it later down the road will result in dealing with higher prices, specifically the SSDs that it uses. I was lucky I was able to get my PC upgraded before hardware prices went nuts due to both AI and tariffs.

Honestly I was happy with just having a Switch 2, but I will receive a PS5 as a gift soon. I have a PS4 and for me the PS5 has yet to have any exclusives that made me want to buy the console. Maybe that will change when Marvel Tokon Souls drops. Well hey at least I will get to play it now.

I'm also disappointed with this gen from ALL 3 platforms.

Longer dev times.

Higher dev costs.

Many GAAS projects resulting in a big lack of single player games.

And I do believe the loss of events like E3 etc. does kill some of the hype/enthusiasm where we were at least guaranteed to see progress on longer developed games.

I can't agree with the people who feel we are better off with blanket silence until a year out from launch. Platform holders should be showing us why we pay a lot for a long term investment in their console, which means showing us not only what we can enjoy soon, but also enjoy 4 years out. These also made for interesting community discussions.

In any case, as the PS5 is also useful streaming box + 4k Blu ray player, it is at least useful when there is nothing to play, unless you are that guy into free-to-play GAAS.

But for me, it's largely disappointing, and I was kind of forced to get one because several PS4 games didn't get a physical release on PS4, but did on PS5, which was a bullshit move by Sony/Publisher (Atlus).

Frankly I do hope the AI brouhaha does delay PS6 back to at least 2030 if not later, so that Sony and devs are forced to create more games for and optimize them for PS5, and they scrap whatever gen plans they have for PS6 and give us a bigger upgrade later.

If games take longer toakw, console gens should be longer, especially if AIarkets are going to make the costs of consoles and PC parts prohibitively more expensive. Which means platform holders are going to have to do a LOT MORE to justify consumer's long term investment in these boxes.

I've decided to skip Switch 2, and very likely will skip PS6 if it is anywhere earlier than 2030. Especially if there is this little to interest me now, "halfway" through the PS5 gen.

I’m too lazy to do a headcount but I’m pretty sure this generation had a number of single player titles across the systems. Yes some of them were remakes/remasters, cross gen and also not exclusive to the current generation systems but I wouldn’t say this generation was lacking in primarily single player games.

If there’s anything that should probably be called out it’s companies (still) releasing unpolished games some of which never get those issues fully sorted out. And the spate of Shovelware on these digital storefronts.

This is all well and good until that game you reveal a teaser trailer or images of goes through developmental hell maybe even restarting development just to eventually wind up like the Perfect Dark Reboot, Sands of Time remake, Star Wars 1313, or the Wonder Woman game from Monolith

Lord knows I still remember “This Is Vegas” and “Agent” having the plug pulled on them years ago after having interest piqued in them.
