How likely will it be that after the movie the new season of SAO will be announced? They did that with the first "movie " and Ordinal Scale movie. It has been a few years since the last season aired. Has he finished the sequel arc yet in the LN?

Yeah, the current arc's eighth novel (29 overall) only just got released in Japan earlier this month. The seventh novel felt like it was only a little past the midpoint, so I fully expect it's going to need at least 3-4 more novels to finish. Given that the main series has only advanced four novels in the past five years, the arc probably won't be finished anytime soon.
Yes, that does mean that there's plenty enough content out there already to animate two, possibly three cours, but would they really start that without the current arc being finished? I'd much more prefer if the upcoming project was a third Progressive movie, but even if it's an anime-original story or based on a spinoff, I'll definitely watch it. |
