(most original thread title ever, i know)
So I was wondering if you more experienced manga readers out there would be able to suggest a title or two I could try reading. Here is a list of what I've found to like/dislike and why: Liked (and in order from most favorite to least favorite): Berserk- I find it has a wonderful story and great action. Oh, and the art? Pure sex. Rurouni Kenshin- I guess I started reading this after watching Trust and Betrayal. Liked the action, story, and characters. Good drawings as well. Shin Angyo Onshi- It's like Berserk and The Dark Tower series had a baby. Wonderful art, nice story, love the characters, and better comedy than Berserk (and Dark Tower for that matter) Full Metal Panic- Guess it's not really a manga, but still a great story. Naruto- Hmm, yeah. I'm not sure why I like this. The story is average, lots of common shonen stuff going on. Art is ok I guess. Bleach-Same reason as Naruto. I do like bleach's style though. Unbalancex2- A korean manga and the only romance-type of manga I've been able to get into. I like how the main character isn't an idiot who constantly trips onto girls crotches. I also like how the plot goes somewhere. That's nice. Dislike (no order): 666- Does this get better? Admittedly, I'm only at the start of volume 2, but I just don't have the motivation to read it. D. Gray-man- Another one I'm just not sure about. I didn't get to far with it. Maybe I just didn't give it the chance it deserved. Kurozuka- Way too weird. Couldn't even tell what was going on half the time. Pastel- Felt like this story wasn't going anywere. Fruits Basket- Same as Pastel Love Hina- See above. Tenjou Tenge- Good action, I guess. I dunno, I just wasn't caring about the story. Nice fan service though Vagabond- I thought I was going to end up liking this one (nice art), but I lost interest during the main character's childhood arc. I felt like I had been reading for 5 hours and only found out he used to be deaf, and was a skilled fighter even at a young age. Ok, let's summarize: I'm looking for something with a good (epic is never bad ) story, characters you can actually care about. Good art is a major plus. Action is a plus but not necessary. Oh, and a little fan service never hurt anyone One of my favorite things when it comes to reading manga is knowing when you've found a really awesome title and you've got several more volumes left and all day to read them. So hopefully one of you will be the cause of that feeling for me again very shortly Well, I'm off to bed. I'll check this in about 12 hours (spring break ftw). Thanks for you help guys. |

There have been a lot of recommendation threads lately. If you look a few pages ahead there have even been a few from people who have a taste in manga similar to yours. So, instead of just listing off a bunch of titles, here are a few threads to check out to find titles you might like.

I always think it's easier to recommend based on an individual's own taste....
Berserk is an incredible series! If not one of the best, ever.... Although, I'd recommend giving D Gray another chance. The first volume absolutely rocks, but the story still kicks ass afterward. Have you tried Death Note, yet? Some of the best artwork I've ever seen, violent themes, amazing characters, and the story will run circles around your head. At least it does mine... Also, I'd recommend Battle Royale. The manga is ridiculously graphic in violence and sex, but there is actually a lot of character development and major conflicts. And if you enjoy the manga, definitely read the novel. Amazing book. Other series you might like: Battle Angel Alita, Akira, Basilisk, Blade of the Immortal, Jing: King of Bandits, Saikano, Sgt. Frog, Tsubasa, and X. If you have any questions about these, feel free to PM me.

Well, I watch the anime, so I figure I'll hold out on that one until the animation team has their break. RIght now I'm content with just the weekly anime. I guess I'll give D Gray another shot. Thanks for your recommendations. |
