I have been noticeing my personal philosophy seems very Shintoesqe/Buddhist (though I think Shinto belongs to the Japanese, not Gaijin like me).
I could think of anime that have influnced my thinking about the "big questions" so speak, for example, Wings of Honiamise (particularly Ladatt), Arjuna, Blue Gender, X, the last episode of Blue Seed.
I also tend to distrust hiearchies, and I wonder if that helps me to enjoy shows like Eva and Bubblegum Crisis 2040 for example.
I found myself agreeing with Sakuragi Kenichiro (First President of Japan Manga) when he said "Individualism is only egoism in disguise, you can't obtain happiness when you think only of yourself."
It seems I am being influenced by what I am reading/seeing (though the groundwork was aleady there). Are any of you having simular experinces? Any coments?

I really think that X has affected my real world philosophies. I don't think it is necessary to wipe out humanity and destroy the earth in hopes of creating a new world. Yet I do believe that humanity has abused the earth very much. I never really thought that an anime could have such a deep philosophical topic.

I think that anime has in subtle ways effected my lifestyle. My family follows Buddhist belief anyway, (Tibetan Buddhism)
But it increased my interest in Japanese culture, making me want to dig deeper and find out more. I am doing self study in Japanese and also taking courses, but anime gives me some initiative to learn. I think about anime all the time! It's everywhere!
It has also inspired me and given me very interesting ideas for stories; art; manga; etc.

nope. I understand their beliefs and I'm good with that but I believe if you are generally a good person you will have a good life and a good next, wether it be in heaven, reincarnation, or such. But, I always get a little nervous when I see a pentagram in anime... lol

Eva can make some pretty drastic changes.
Mainly because of the last 2 episodes and End of Evangelion.
Rahxephon also even though it's easier to understand.

I'm enjoying what I'm reading.
Ayamacha,
I find I'm agreeing with you on X (All for being kinder to the planet without wiping out the human race raise your hand). I do think if I were the writer (and I am playing with the idea of an "apocalyptic" manga) I would make revolution the key to surivial and adhereance to the status quo the key to destruction.
Android,
I first have to say I love your avatar, it seems to "fit" how you come across on your post very well. I like that.
Secondly I also study Japanese and write fiction/manga scripts (I can't draw) and I have been very influenced by the ideas I've encountered in manga.
Hellomojo,
That's fine too. I guess we all get to find out eventually about the afterlife. If you don't mind me asking, what makes you nervous about the pentagrams?
animegmr01,
I honestly don't understand your post. I think my Eva feelings come from working with under people who remind me of Seelee and living in a society that could have a corp. like Genom.
All the best,
Nani?

Don't mean to be a downer on this, but their are far superior places to shape your worldviews.
Like reading philosopy, or religon, or common tradition.
I like anime as much as the next guy, but I get my view on life from Jesus and Plato, not Shinji and Vash.

How do you define a more "superior" place (i.e. Book, Lecture, Anime, ect), you should judge an idea based upon the idea itself, not were it orginated from. Also, idealy if an idea intrestes you, then you should do more reading on it from other places; however, in the context of anime and manga even if it is fiction is the author maybe introducing a belief set or world view into the media that you would not write a "traditional" philisophical paper on.
Personaly, my world view/belief set is influneced by just about every thing I read and watch including anime, however, I only included it if I feel that the idea holds merit.

I believe the "place" that Wreck was referring to wasn't geographical. It wasn't intended as one place over another...but one format over another. (Example: Reading a book instead of watching anime.)
EDIT: As for the topic....I'm rather secure in my belief system. (And it's a rather open belief system at that.) There isn't much that could really change it.

I think what Ramblin's talking about is the fact that any philosophy/theology in anime is, in all likelyhood, a restatement, representation or reconsideration of previously established philosophical or theological ideas. So if there's an anime with ideas that appeal to you, you should check out the real source material, whatever that may be. Which is why, after Eva, I bought books on Shintoism and Jung. Although I still don't understand them!

On world views, I don't think anime has influenced me that much in that department mainly because I was an avid watcher of Captain Planet when I was little. >.>
On other worldy issues such as homosexuality, and incest, anime sure has lightened my opinion there.

Well, first time I ever watched the Angel Sanctuary OVA, I was appaled by the incest. It was just... gross. Then I got into things such as the Angel Sanctuary manga, and now... I'm not sickened by it anymore.
And well, since I went through my preteen years with Sailor Moon, lesbians don't bug me. And CLAMP has helped me with shonen-ai. ^_^; Not really a worldly issue, but these things are sort of striving for worldy acceptence.
