Searched through and didn't find a dedicated or recent thread for Yawara, but with AnimEigo starting pre-orders, I thought it might be a good time to make a thread for this series and see what folks think about this series.
I'm really looking forward to Yawara's release and am grateful for AnimEigo taking a chance on an older show. I love judo and though I only saw the first fifteen or so episodes on VHS I rented from Tsutaya, I really enjoyed Yawara. I dunno how well it will do here though (since sports anime never seem to get very big here and this one's significantly older).
I thought the characters were kinda quirky and fun, and even Yawara's desire to domesticate herself in spite of her obvious judo talent is kinda interesting. Definitely a complete 180 from Urasawa's Monster.

I've been waiting for this since lo, these many years ago when AnimEigo had just done their KOR TV pre-order sales gimmick and had a poll at cons to see what other series they could get people to commit to. My vote was emphatically for Yawara!, of course.
I do hope that the excitement of the folks who've been waiting for this catches on with the rest of the fandom.

I checked this series out in the encyclopedia when tasogarenootometasogarenootome mentioned it and I have to say it looks interesting. I don't think I'll pre-order it, but there's a very high probability that I'll move it up to the top of my to-buy list.
The animation is definitely early nineties but that's never really bothered me. From the short clips I've seen it looks like the Judo is done well enough. Aside from the production values the story kind of intrigues me.
40 episodes for $125? that comes to about $3 an episode, and that's a good deal in my book.

Yeah the animation (along with no dub) will probably be quite a hurdle for most fans, but after the preview disc I'm looking forward to AnimEigo's handling of it (I like the culture/liner notes included on the disc). The preview disc is still available for order (free, but five bucks for shipping, I believe)

I've been waiting for this show since I saw a few episodes over a decade ago at the local anime club.
When the box arrives all other viewing will be put on hold until I finish it.
