I posted this in the Anime forum as well, but figured i should try here too
I was talking to my friend today and he mentioned that somewhere you could download a personal planner type thing for your desktop designed like a persocom...i was just wondering if this is true, or he is making it up
if it is true, could anyone tell me where i could download it?
[EDIT - Locked the first thread. Please, keep the topics to where they belong.. and heck, this barely belongs in anime in the first place. -C]

No, you need only make one thread in one place. Now that that's out of the way, this sounds like BS, but I've never been that big into Chobits, so I wouldn't know...

In a way they already do have persocoms. I was reading on another forum of how a man designed a robot that looks human and can say various things, move, and do other things. Also, someone said they had a robot that told you directions in a museam in New York. A picture of the robot is below. They really aren't persocomms I guess. You decide.
The woman on the right is the robot.

Holy Christ, she looks like my mom.
I've always been interested in the development of robots and AI. The world seems well on its way to building better and better prototypes, but how will the rest of humanity accept it? Anone who has ever read Asimov knows his thoughts on the human lashback to robots. A similar sentiment is also shown in the Matrix, etc. What do you think?
Typically, humans are more receptive to something if it's humanoid. But if it's too human, humans will feel threatened and shun it. There's a name for this reaction, but I can't think of it right now.

Hey Sakechan! Your mom is kinda cute!
That is one of the favourite story lines of anime. The old "I don't need a girlfriend, I've got a playstation" becomes the ultimate form!
Saber J, Chobits, Armitage, Saikano, Mahoromatic, Kurumi and many others.
Sometimes they are feared, sometimes looked upon in adoration and amazement. But how does it always end?
Chise from Saikano is the best example. Everyone adores her from a distance, but they are filled with fear and dread when she is too near. How can you trust what you don't really understand?

I _do_ remember seeing something like that, for your computer.
I thought it was like "Person soft" or "persosoft" or something, but I'm not having any luck finding 'em. They were Japanese-only avatars that basically talked to you, sometimes asked you questions, and sometimes provided links to the net for various things.
Kinda like that purple hippo thing.. but anime-style, and less annoying.
That's the closest I can come to a "personal manager"-style anime avatar program...

It would be cool if some sort of persocom was created down the future, on the computer or in some sort of robot...
