Do you think that Manga E. Might be persuaded to release half seasons on DVD only and then complete collections on DVD and Blu-Ray (I know they're doing something similar with K-ON!, but I wondered about other titles)? Or would this be even more financially suicidal than their previous attempts?

They were planning on doing something similar with K-ON, whether Manga actually sticks to it is another matter.
I'm guessing depending on how well K-ON performs - it will depend if Manga should go about this for releases in the future.
