Viz really just do a horrible job on it quality wise.

I only currently have the first volume they released, but to start things off:

1) There are a couple blank bubbles
2) I could do a better job on the sound effect image-editing job they did in this.
3) They mistranslated a couple lines. Example: When Kira shows up to Setsuna after Setsuna get's the crap beat out of him. Originally Setsuna said "I want to fudge." Viz translated it out to be "I want you to fudge me." Saying he wanted Kira to screw him, when that's not originally what he said.
4) Their work on the cover design is crap. It all just makes me grimance.

I also heard there were a couple mispellings, but I've missed them, most likely because I suck at spelling.

Really, if Viz asked me, I'd do the cover layout and all the soundeffect editing and bubbling for free, and it'd turn out better then what they did.

However, I'm still overjoyed that something Kaori Yuki has come here finally. Viz may be treating it like crap, but I'll continue to show my support of Kaori Yuki in English by buying these versions.

*smirks at the auto changer of the bad word* Cool

But, question. Is it so bad that I should continue just importing the manga and getting the translations on-line (like what I've been doing) or should I just say "screw all the money and buy the translated ones?"

I would go with the later option. Even though there was that one little error that I noticed in the translation, Viz is bound to get better *I hope*. Also buying the only Kaori Yuki manga title in English will help bring more attention to her and maybe Viz will consider giving her stuff more attention, and maybe even bring over a couple of her other titles.

Its definetly worth the $10 you spend buying it, even thought yes, they did do somewhat of a crappy job handling the title, and it may get better, it encourages Viz to look at other titles that most of us can only see online because someone took the time to translate and such. in the end you may wind up spending over $200 for all twenty volumes, but it also locks eyes to people just falling into Manga. Does anyone think Tokyo Pop could have done better?

Actually I do. None of their covers have really looked unatractive in a long time, and I haven't seen them release a manga yet with missing bubbles. Angel Sanctuary is one of the most low quality manga releases I've seen in a while.

I was crying when VIZ picked up the license for Angel Santuary because I believed that America wasn't ready for it. But now, I could cry every time that I buy the manga. Sad

Interesting. The series has just started here in the netherlands (manga and anime are still in the beginning fases here, only volume 1 and 2 are available now), and I must say that the quality of volume 1 (haven't read 2 yet) is not that bad at all.

Although I can't judge about the translations (although I'll check that one particular line this weekend), I haven't seen any white bubbles in it at all. A quick scan through volume 2 also didn't get me to see any of those bubbles.
Maybe they improved quality in the reprint, although you gotta check out yourself if that also goes for the american version.

In any case, even if the american versions continue to be bad, at least there is hope of Viz treating the newer releases with respect Smile.
