That's just the reaction I expected from Takopii. I'm actually quite surprised at how unflinching it was in depicting the more horrible aspects of the manga, particularly the scene with spoiler[Shizuka hanging from the ceiling]. This has the potential to be one of the best anime of the year. |

The Takopi manga is genuinely great, but I’m convinced that a lot of people aren’t mentally prepared for the anime. I dread the potential onslaught of people having morality panic attacks regarding the show.

I read the synopsis for the Takopi manga way back, and it sounded like tragedy porn ala Magical Girl Site, were a kid just has the most improbably sad and horrific life ever, but I enjoyed this first episode alot. I do feel like the bullying is exaggerated a bit too much though.
Like I know teachers just not doing anything about bullying is something that happens in real life, but I feel like surely there's at least 1 teachers who has qualms about the kid that walks around with a randosell and desk with "die" carved into them and gets beaten to a pulp semi-often? I realize these things will probably be adressed further on though, and the exaggerated bullying is so the audience can understand why'd she want to kill herself, but I wonder if the depiction of bullying in media affects how people react to real life bullying. I assume Marina is going to have a redemption arc and I feel like the exaggeration is a bit of a hinder there as well because at the middle I was thinking "Takopi, you need to kill this kid" She stabs a classmate in the face with a pen! That's not "her home life is bad"-excusable! That's an upcoming serial killer! |

Looking forward to when Takopi is finished so I can watch it with guarantee of no weekly pauses. Otherwise, glad to be seeing so much praise everywhere I look.
Duke's Daughter is isn't mind-numbing, but it's certainly boring as sin. Cute designs, cute chibi (all eight of them?), likable main two girls in such a spotless manner even while literally repeatedly tripping over themselves as in Ellie's case. Reminds me of similar "young man teaches or otherwise socializes with a bunch of proper young ladies," or suchlike anime from the 2000s, except those don't have such dry animation and painfully rote high points ("Firebird" had me just sad). I almost wish it was... well, not necessarily calling back the same sometimes sleazier memories of those, just had some sauce. It also reminded me of The Royal Tutor which I have fond memories of and have considered watching again from time to time. Moved so much more and so much more character, too. Also, two episodes now, huh? Haha, oof, in what'll surely be many cases. |

Sponsorships are by and large a good thing, because they (theoretically) mean more money for the people who create the content we enjoy. But I do hope being sponsored by Crunchyroll doesn't mean they'll be limited to only reviewing Crunchyroll shows, or be incentivized to give better reviews to Crunchyroll shows than to shows streaming elsewhere. That would be super lame.

The first episode of Private Tutor was decent. The animation and magical effects are good enough and while the mc does not have much of a personality yet he is not annoying either. I am always in for a magic school setting so I am looking forward to that. First up is solving Tina's issue though, given the effect of her magic circle breaking I wonder if it is seal or curse related. My main worry so far is there being an annoying chibi/loli harem.

Daughter Tutor was ok. Kind of relaxing, actually. I like Allen well enough, and felt I can tolerate Tina, but Ellie got on my last nerve from the moment of her introduction and every minute of screen time thereafter. Not too pleased with the ending scene's suggestion as to where that's going either. So I think it'll take a few more episodes for me to decide this one.
Manic Pixie Takoyaki Thing was not what I expected from either the trailer or the reviews. By all accounts, I don't think the bullying is exaggerated, unfortunately, but somehow a pink octopus ball with a second-chance camera is not quite the right vehicle to convey that message to me. Pat Benatar's "Hell is for Children" still does a better job. I'll keep watching for awhile unless octoblob becomes too off-putting. |

I work in mental health care and hear real biographies from patients. Real life can often be far worse than fiction. People often don't think a story is believable if too much misery happens. Real life doesn't have that filter unfortunately. (That said, real life also has things that are better than fiction. I've never seen mental health care in anime.) Teachers are people and they too can have their own troubles which make them unable to care for the children that need them the most. If there's an unhealthy dynamic with colleagues for example. A teacher must feel safe enough to report problems and face the parents that cause neglect. A teacher that has no back up won't report a problem. A teacher that has too many problems at work and/or at home might not be willing to face any new problems. It's also possible that the child/protagonist has seen too many untrustworthy adults and cannot trust another adult. |

Takopi affected me emotionally more than any other piece of media in recent memory. I was left sobbing uncontrollably and needed my spouse to comfort me.
I would like to give this a chance as it feels like something worth seeing, but the first episode alone hit on multiple high distress subjects (spoiler[implied animal harm, being mistreated for things you can’t change, women being reduced to their sexuality as a means of disparagement, harm to children ]). Manga readers: am I going to be able to stick this out? =/ Or should I tap out now? |

If the first episode brought you to tears, it is only going to become increasingly worse from this point forward. I genuinely cried for several hours after finishing the manga. In fact, it required an entire day for me to recuperate, which is why I feel somewhat hesitant about viewing the anime. |

Have to go with smurky and Eisenbeis on this one. While not a great show, I did not once check to see how much time was remaining in the episode.
Darn you, I was going to mention that. 
Takopi's Original Sin Not sure about this one as I find Takopi to be mildly annoying. As for the bad things that happen, I know about and have seen much worse in the real world so I am too desensitized to be bothered much by it.
