I just love Monica's face games throughout the episodes. So many are meme-able Laughing

The first episode gave me the impression that it would be a lot less "shojo" than it actually is, so I'm pretty disappointed, but I guess I can't really blame the story for that.

But the pointless catty classmate and the step toward reverse harem just aren't my things. Shame cause I like the MC

Yeah, it's clearly going to pull on those tropes, but I'm enjoying Monica's relationship with her two new new gal-pals who are both a little over the top caricatures but in a fun way. Also, I'm here for a Numbers-esque math-detective with magic.

spoiler[I don’t think those girls ever show up again and if they do, it’s a minor enough appearance that I do not remember it. Also this is not a reverse harem; Felix and Cyril are the only love interests and Felix doesn’t even start to be into her until volume 3, which is beyond what the anime is going to cover.]
So far I’ve been a biencedisappointed with the pacing. They’ve been really speeding through the novel and fully cutting out whole scenes, including some I really liked. They’re also giving away chunks of Monica’s backstory much earlier than the novels did and seem to be making certain twists much more obvious. I do find the first two novels (whatthis season is adapting) to be my least favorite out of the ones I’ve read so I’m hoping if this does well enough for a second season they find their footing by then.

Beg pardon for being That Person, but it's "for the throne."

I can't comment on what material the anime will cover (I've a terrible memory for which story bits correspond to which volume numbers) but I can say that after some school shenanigans, the series veers into much more interesting material. Namely spoiler[political conspiracies, spy games, general intrigue. Monica isn't the only one with secrets to keep.] As for there being a reverse harem, I mean... I don't know what to say other than that this really isn't a romance series.

I think the LNs do a pretty good job splitting the difference between drama, action, and comedy. Basically... don't write the show off just yet.

I am curious what Cyril noticed in Episode 3 that got his memory wiped. I half wondered if it was recognizing Monicas handwriting as The Silent Witch somehow, because it was her handwriting that stood out to him.

Was it her handwriting, or the original entries that she was correcting? I assumed the same thing initially, but on reflection I'm not entirely sure. The latter would probably make more sense. Whoever is running the conspiracy at the school has no particular reason to protect Monica (Indeed they probably benefit from exposing her), and every reason to protect themselves and co-conspirators.

Thats true too. I was assuming that he was being wiped for another purpose (The book itself is gone when he leaves the room) but that what had caused him to start to leave was the handwriting. But maybe its all about what Monica was fixing, I dont know.

The anime is great but I would say that it's making a lot of the side characters come off as much nicer than they were in the novel. I don't mind it too much for Lana and I could maaaaaybe accept it for Cyril, but Bridget and especially Felix lose a lot of their edge (like, novel Felix is kind of a freak, it's honestly hilarious).

I think what I fell in love with the most in this story is how kind it is, small scenes like Monica smiling as she finally makes a friend makes me feel so happy I want to cry. The anime has maintained that softness so overall I'm pretty satisfied.

Bocchi the Witch is here!

In all seriousness though, I'm loving the animation and direction so far and all of Monica's stellar expressions and comedy has been adapted so well!

I also have to applaud them for delivering a fake Villainess, something I never knew I needed in my life until Atsumi Tanezaki started hamming it up both as a Villainess and a fangirl as Isabelle.

Also Lana is the best fashionista novaeu riche gal pal an socially withdrawn anxiety mess of a Heroine could ask for!

I hope it turns out that both Aaron and Selma were being manipulated and not completely in control of their actions...Selma really seems like a genuinely nice, if lonely, girl who doesn't deserve this.

Monica feels like a character that's easy to ship, not strictly in the romance sense but more that you can put her together with any character, male or female, and she ends up having a nice dynamic/chemistry with them. Though I can't help but see her student council position and not think she's an Otome Game Heroine in the making.

Though also this feels like it's taken the baton from Apothecary Diaries to a degree with a quirky intelligent Heroine and a prince trying to prove himself getting involved with mysteries while someone is targeting the prince. Sounds familiar, huh?

I assumed Cyril's memory was wiped because he noticed some discrepancies in the books that the teacher who was looking them over should've caught. Or maybe it was Monica related...

I was a little confused with the opening scene of episode 5. It felt like I missed an episode

I'm really liking the series in abstract... But, *dayum* does it need to stop introducing largely indistinguishable and interchangeable side characters.

I have to say I love Moni-moni-moni-moni-Monica as this socially awkard and adorable mess but when she's in serious Silent Witch mode and casually and cooly taking care of every problem in front of her...it's quite the entertaining contrast.

I like how Monica is slowly winning over the student council, one student at the time, and we're adding layers to the characters who initially seemed averse and rude to her. Meanwhile Felix continues to be an enigma.

What a surprise that the character voiced by Koji Yusa just happens to be the bad guy. What a fitting end for him, though.

So, were Selma and Aaron cleared? I don't think they made it explicit how much of their involvement was willing or manipulated.

Monica just casually stumbling into problems and resolving them incognito like a Superhero.

Kind of rare when another character has the MC "break the orb that tests your magic level" moment.

Of course the professor won't recognize Monica, his eyebrows totally cover his eyes! I'm not even sure if he's in on it because why call out Monica for a second otherwise?

Monica has discovered chess and horses! I think they'll be good fits for her. Though the way she analyzed chess really makes me wonder exactly what she's had to go through as the Silent Witch.

Country noble gal pals are also frequent in this setting. Also, Hina Suguta in a new anime! I feel like Casey will also get along with Lana because they're both ostracized for not being "proper nobles." Lana can even give Casey fashion tips.

I wonder what a cross over with Witch Watch would be like. Can you imagine if Monica meet Nico. Talk about two opposites, One his very outgoing but often screw up her spells, while the other is a shut in but is perfect when it comes to magic execution.

Anyone can we please clear Aaron and Selma's name? Starting to make me dislike the justice system.
